Split brain phenomenon in medical aspect:

As it is known, corpus callosum connects the two hemispheres of the brain. Each hemisphere controls the muscles on the other side of the body.

For example: the left side of each retina sees the right side of the world and is then routed to the left hemisphere. The right side of each retina sees the left side of the world and then goes to the right hemisphere.

About 95% of us have our left hemisphere controlling our ability to speak, while our right is mute.

Though controlling the muscles of the other side of te body, the two hemispheres could easily communicate and coordinate if the corpus callosum is intact.

But without an intact corpus callosum (injured or severed), there comes a problem in the communication between the two hemispheres- resulting to split brain phenomenon.

For example: Your friend may see a flower to his left (with the image being sent to his right hemisphere) and not be able to tell what it is.

(Remember that the right hemisphere is always mute and now lacks any connection with left hemisphere so it stops right there on the right side and couldn't say anything.)

Your split-brain friend may say, “I don't know what is that”, but while saying that, he would be grasping a flower on his left hand!

L brain sends and receives signals from the R side of the body , R brain to the L and the R and L brain send signals to each other .
That is why one hand knows what the other is doing for example move your R Hand and catch it with the L
If a person has split' brain that person will not be able to do a task such as this.
People who have extreme cases of epilepsy or some other seizure disorder will some times have a surgical procedure to separate the connection between the R and L brain
Most of the time there are few side effects and the patient is able to live a much more normal life.

You can read about it on some of the whackier Islamic fundamentalist websites. Even see pictures of Moon rilles and pseudo-scientific hand-waving explaining it all. Basically, it's nonsense. If you are Muslim and you say things like "hey, doesn't the line "split Moon" conjure up the impression that the writer was talking about First or Last Quarter?" you get stoned.. or at least a really stony stare. Like the Bible in the 14th century, the Koran is currently infallible. Let's see how long that lasts, shall we? Remember, it's 2009. The 21st century. We have planes, trains and TiVo. It's about time to put away silly superstition, the belief in splitting the Moon, parting the Red Sea, dipping your "spear" into the ocean to create the land... come ON!

The brain is divided into 2 hemispheres - left and right.
These are usually joined by the corpus collusum, which allows both hemispheres to communicate with each other.
When this is not working, both hemispheres work independently.
Each hemisphere is responsible for different tasks.
Split brain people (i don't know any - only remember this from Psychology) who have problems in certain areas show symtoms such as recognising their parents when they speak on the phone - but not knowing who they are when they see them.

i dunnt know. But to guess this kind of phenomenon, i'd like to give some other situations. Normally if you are awake, then definitely you are not dreaming and if you are dreaming (e,g. sleeping), then definitely you are not awake. And the split brain phenomenon is abit like one who can have both of awake and dreaming. How? We all have this phenomenon, but the thing is the period is very short. For some people, however this might last quite long.

Basically it is right brain and left brain thinking. Everyone has a different strong side. One side is creative the other side is practical. Example is people who are engineers, mechanical, problem solvers, decision makers. The other side are artists, musicians, research and development. I hope this helps.
