The sea is called salty because of the nature of the water.
Water in pure form would contain no impurities. Water is very reactive in pure form. Hence water disolves certain compounds and minerals out of mother earth. Spring water contains a certain concentration of minerals.
The sea water contains the largest concentration of dissolved minerals salts and the most abondant is sodium chloride ,which we call table salt.
The taste of sea water is salty. Therefore we called the sea salty water. It could also have been called mineral water.

it's because river water as it flows gains mineral salts along the way when the water hits the river bank and rocks which contain minerals... these mineral salts will increase in concentration as more and more of it are deposited in the river water... and when it reaches the open area as in the sea... the concentration of minerals salts in the water is very high and tats why sea water is salty!
