Most answers were good, but there is another cause. It varies with your activity. Also, not all people have the same temp. It varies with the person. When I have a "normal" temp, I actually have a fever! Adding all up, they vary with time of day or night, personal body limits, activity, outside temp, even biorhythms. The normal temp is not necessarily right for everyone at all times.

It does but not by much. Your internal temperature must be at 37.5 degrees in order to function properly. At about midday it can peak to 37.7 degrees and drops to 37.4 at night.
