Whilst watching the olympics and other various athletics events I have always pondered this question: If the Earth spins on its axis at a high rate (I presume it must be at leat a few metres per second), why if a long jumper jumps against the direction the earth is spinning doesnt he jump out of the stadium! Or if he jumps in the direction the earth is spinning doesn't he travel backwards? If anyone has a simple explanation other than just one word - 'gravity' then I would like to hear it!

If I were to spend a year Moon chasing, following a full moon would I change as a person and if so would it be a positive change?
If the following year I was to avoid the full moon would my experiances be significantly different?

I just asked a question that proved 0.99999... = 1.

The concept is true, but I thought the math might be an anomale:

x = 0.99999...

so 10x = 9.99999...

then 10x - x = 9x and 9.99999... - 0.99999... = 9

so 9x = 9

and then x = 1

----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

But I tried it with 0.33333...

x = 0.33333...

10x = 3.33333...

so 10x - x = 9x and 3.33333... - 0.33333... = 3

so 9x = 3

x = 3/9 or 1/3

1/3 = 0.33333...

The difference would be 0.0000... with zeros going on forever and a one at the end right? Well, where does the one go? At the end of forever??? That's a paradox. There's no end to forever, therefore, there's never any ones. We tried to prove it with math, but you couldn't see the whole picture, so you used rounded numbers which changed the whole equation. Think in terms of infinity.

It really is difficult for the mind to grasp infinity, though, isn't it. Even with one simple number.

1 and 0.99999... are one in the same. Any reasoning used to try to say "the difference is there, it's just ininitely small", is faulty reasoning, as "infinitely small" is by definition, zero.

It seems that the sun is trying to fight against the dark matter again. Here is a saga of heroic proportions; the sun versus dark matter! See the Goliahs and Bohemoths fight the eternal struggle for supremacy! Why are we so unaware of this battle of the millenium? All other galaxies watching this wrestling match! At least we will have front row seats! Also, lets hope we are not entering the asteroid belt anytime soon. Would anyone let me know if we were headed into the asteroid belt? Also, do you think that the sun and planets have opposite elements that keep them neg/positively charged so that the planets do not fall into the sun by magnetic attraction principles (which should have happened years ago). And that the dark matter which is heavier than matter is the soup which makes up the space and keeps us afloat in the universe? Otherwise we would either a) fall into the sun or b)have no logical pattern of movement or position in the galaxy, i.e. we would be like Nubulas.

I see on the telly, various chefs and what not saying thisis how you boil an egg.

Some of them say, get the water boiling, then drop your egg into the water and boil for 2 minutes. now, when you pop your egg into the water, the egg will affect the temperature of the water. If you have a pan and drop 6 eggs into the water, this will have a greater affect on the templerature of the water.

Therefore, my hypothsis is, what is the optimal amount of water you need per egg, so if you are adding 6 eggs, the temperature fo th ewater is not affected enough to affect the outcome of your egg boiling.

a formula would be good :-)

A bath is filled up with hot water, say 42 degrees C. A volume of cold water is added, taking the temperature down to 38 degrees C.

As a proportion of the water that is already in the bath, how much hot water (42 degrees C) will be needed to bring the whole bath back up to 42 degrees C.

If you could show your working and explain any laws you are using that would be great.

Can anyone tell me what orion did before he became a part of the constellation (a god?), what his job was, why he had two dogs, and what happened to cause him to be a part of the constellation.
Why did he have stars on his belt? What roles did majis canis play in egyptian, roman, indian mythology? What events/purpose did this star cause or play on earth, i.e. it was the brightest star, dog days of summer or flooding of the Nile.

I am absolutely clueless about mythology and astronomy. To me a star is a star. They all look the same. Thanks
