If Sally can paint a house in 4 hours, and John can paint the same house in 6 hour, how long will it take for both of them to paint the house together?

These are the answers that I've been given:
2 hours and 24 minutes
3 hours and 12 minutes
3 hours and 44 minutes
4 hours and 10 minutes
4 hours and 33 minutes

Now, I know that the correct answer is 2hours and 24minutes but I don't know HOW to get the answer... if there are any math geniuses out there, PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I have a necklace that is silver coloured and even has the 925 stamp but I'm still not sure that it's real silver. Is there any tests I can do at home with out getting it appraised?

Tanya's uncle Joe said he would give her so money so she could open a savings account. He gave her $5000.00. She opened an account with 3% interest. How much interest had the account earned after the first 6 months? Answer is 7.50 (no problem there)
Here is where I couldnt figure out.

If Tanya did not make any withdrawals, how much money was in her account at the end of the first eight months? The answer given is $ 1050.00 ( I couldnt figure how that answer came to be and there were some typo's in this booklet)

I am making a series of visual applets in Java and Matlab for Undergraduate physics majors. What were some concepts that were difficult for you to grasp that might have been easier if you had some way to play with the values to see how the concept 'works'?

My applets are for everyone in any level of physics. From basic Astronomy for non-majors to Intro to Electrodynamics.
