Ya 'll heard of ppl getting lost in caves in complete darkness for (?a while, I guess, cause if they're not found they'd die, but thats besides the point?) too long apparently and becoming blind, why?

Colligative properties of a solution are affected only by the number of solute particles in the solution. To calculate the boiling point elevation of a solution you would do i * K * m = CBP where i is the Van't Hoft factor, K is the molal boiling point constant, m is the molality, and CBP is the change in boiling point. My question is what if you had two solutes with different i factors say sodium chloride and calcium chloride and put them in water to make 1 kg of solution. How would you determine the change in boiling point? Would you simply add up the molalities? Then what would be the i factor? Would you calculate the change that sodium chloride alone would make and add that to the change calcium chloride would make alone? Make as many assumptions as needed.

Ethanol contains less carbon per molecule than gasoline, but it still is composed of carbon (and oxygen and hydrogen). Does this mean that by combusting biofuels we will still be releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere? If this is the case, do people think we should consider this our "long term solution" to the energy problem?

23.42/42.94 and 5.2/4.256 How?

In most classes like Physics/Calculus you'll just use a calculator if you need to compute these, so I forgot how to do them by hand. 23.42 is smaller than 42.94, and they're both decimals, this makes it tricky for me.

My last question is how would I approximate something like cos(2) or ln(3) without using a calculator?

I intend to make a hillbilly swimming pool by using a great sheet of plastic in the back of my old pickup truck and filling it with water. I just don't want to put too much weight in it and damage the leaf springs or other things. I own a '79 chevy 1/4 ton stepside in fair condition. P.S. I mean no offense to actual hillbillies :)

I'm posting here instead of the religion category, hoping to find more thoughtful answers. Personally, I don't believe in any God(s), but many people do. I am guessing that you must assume God is timeless, due to the nature of the being, so S/He is not part of our Universe. Do you have any ideas as to how you could go about proving that God exists using any current theories in Cosmology, such as Multiverses, String Theory, M-Theory, etc?

I want to know what the place in America is (by population) that does NOT have a McDonalds.
If your answer is an individual city that is PART OF a larger metropolitan area (like, for instance, Beverly Hills is part of the larger Los Angeles area), I don't care.
I'm only interested in the largest stand-alone community/city/place in America that doesn't have a McDonalds.

Where is it? And what is its population?

Now, for bonus points, what about the same question, but for Starbucks????
