I intend to make a hillbilly swimming pool by using a great sheet of plastic in the back of my old pickup truck and filling it with water. I just don't want to put too much weight in it and damage the leaf springs or other things. I own a '79 chevy 1/4 ton stepside in fair condition. P.S. I mean no offense to actual hillbillies :)

1 gallon is 231 cubic inches. One gallon of fresh water weighs about 8.33 lbs. I trust you know what to do from there. Get all the dimensions in inches, and multiply. I think you can subtract about 10 gallons for the space taken by the wheel wells, but it's better to overestimate than to underestimate. Have a good night!

Water weighs 8 lbs. per gallon. So figure out the area of a known gallon container in either feet or inches.
Or figure out the cibic feet, and multiply by 8.

Well you will not be able to put very much water into your truck. Lets say your truck has an avg length of 6ft...um width of about lets say 4ft....and height of 1ft of water....That would be 48 sq ft...multifply that by 64Ib....that equals 3072Ib....which then makes 1.536 tons...much more than capacity.
