El Nino develops when the trade winds weaken cause the warm western Pacific water to flow eastward. In result, sea surface temperature significantly increase over the eastern and central equatorial Pacific, which enhance precipitations over the Southeastern United States and reduce precipitation over the Northeaster United States and Eastern Canada. It also caused " warm" winter over Northeast and Southeast America. Over the west Pacific, the weather will be the opposite of east Pacific. Thus, the global temperature should not be affected by El Nino. Additionally, this large-scale phenomenon impacts on seasonal weather only, and it occurs in a rang of 2 to 7 years, then it will followed by either La Nina or normal cycle.

it doesn't change the temp it just moves warm water from one area to another. the water around australia is warm, normally it stays near australia. during El nino the winds shift and all that warm water moves off the coast of South America and the cold water moves to Australia. there is no net change in the temp of the pacific ocean, only local changes
