hi, i have a 3 month old daughter who has radial aplasia which basically means that the one of the bones in her forearm didn't grow and she has only 6 fingers in total and no thumbs. her right arm is really short and the elbow is fixed. i had both nhs ultrasounds and a 4d scan at 30 weeks none of which picked up this abnormality which is pretty obvious! i was even told she had 10 fingers and toes by the radiographer so it was a complete shock when she was born and then we were told she could have all manner of syndromes, vater association, heart defects, blood disorders and kidney damage. luckily she hasn't but the testing was very stressful. has anyone else had this type of experience or has a child with radial aplasia who could give advice on what i should be asking for in terms of support and help from the medical profession or could tell me how their child adapts. thanks

I just purchased Dr. Brown's bottles because my 3 week old daughter is spitting up a lot and has a lot of gas. In the directions it says to boil the nipple for 3 minutes for the first use only. It says to wash all the other parts in hot soapy water. It doesn't say to boil the bottles or all other parts to sterilize them before each use or anything. So my question is for the parents who use them, how do you clean them? Do you boil any or all of the parts or just wash them in hot soapy water (or both) prior to using them? Also, did they help with spitting up/gas with your child?

I'm getting frustrated because everything I try doesn't work, she used to go to sleep at 9pm. after a change and a feeding. 2 books and a good night kiss.

now, since she learned how to stand up in her crib, and how to flip over, and on top of it all she is teething, she refuses to relax. I try everything. I'm just not sure what else to do.

Can you give me ideas.
Thanks

my baby is 7 months old. at her six moth checkup she weighed 17lbs 11oz which was 75% and 27 inches which was 90% for her age. I feed her 6oz formula plus a gerber 2nd of a fruit of my choice Ie. banana, applesauce etc at 630 am every morning. then she gets a 7oz bottle at 1030am. then she has a six ounce bottle of formula with a gerber 2nd veggie of choice like greenbeans, carrots etc at about 130pm. i then feed her a 6oz bottle with a dinner of a 2nd food such as vegetable ckn or sweetpotato abd ckn at about 530pm and finally a 7oz bottle of formula at 800 bedtime. she eats every drop and is really fussy if she misses a meal. does this seem like to much or just right? when we talked to pedi at 6 months we really did not discuss this due to other concerns. we do go back this tuesday but i was curious as to others opinions because i dont agree with every single thing pediatricians say because they all have their own opinions as well.

My 7 month old has a horrible diaper rash. The doc had us try lotrimin and cortizone. We also tried different diaper rash ointments and switched from Pampers to Huggies. Nothing is working. It's bright red and itches her. Any suggestions?

I have a 9 day old and I am breastfeeding exclusively. He seems to eat constantly during the day. But only recently, (yesterday and today). He sleeps during the night somewhat, I feed him every two hours at night. But during the day it seems to never stop. I try to see if he has a wet diaper before putting him back on but he reaches with his mouth and puts his hands inhis mouth and roots for my breast. I nurse him for about an hour or more per breast it seems. i broke down and pumped, I managed to get about 2oz in 15 minutes (from both breasts). He drank one oz and is sleeping now. how can I get him to eat more and nurse less. he hasn't been causing me pain (the manual pump did that) can I expect more milk or is two oz pumped in 15 minutes good or not? He has a little mouth so getting a good latch is a challege.
he puts out several wet diapers during the day but his stools are small, about 1-2 tbs.
i really do not want to supplement with formula.

moms, i would like to start a debate right here (tada) in this question about diapers. just a few facts, did you know that disposiable diapers are not ment to hold the poop in the trash, you are suppose to shake it off in the toilet jsut like a cloth diaper; reason; because the poop ends up in our land fills and poultes the ground with human pathogens and increasing the risk of the spread of disease. also, it take 500 years for a disposible diaper to biodegrate and 18-23 billion are thrown away each year. in time for the first years of diapers to biodegrate, 8,500,000,000,000-11,000,000,000,000 will be degrating still. we all know that diapers wernt around for 500 years and that they wont be for much longer, but could you imagine???
please just post opnions, not hate.
as for me, i use old fashioned cloth diapers and covers. they work just fine for us. i use chemical free detergent adn viniger to wash, it only takes 20 minutes to dry them and about 60 to wash them. i only wash one...

I have an evenflo comfort select Dual electric breast pump. i tried using it this morning but it's not sucking. The noise that it makes when it does suck is there, but it's not doing the sucking thing. I don't know what's wrong with it. It's not that old. It was purchased in december of last year and was only used once before I got it. It worked perfectly each time i used it. The last time I used it was about 2 weeks ago when I was on a trip. Brought it out for the first time since then, put all the parts together, and turned it on... and the noise is there but the sucking isn't. I'm frustrated because I know how expensive these pumps are and I really need it. Don't really want to go out and get a new one when this one is still brand new. And i don't want a manual one. Has anyone experienced this before and can you help me? thanks...

My boy's 11 months old, and getting tired of his baby cereal and oatmeal ( porridge) for breakfast. Toast is an obvious alternative. He has not shown any food allergies so far, hence I think spreading unsalted butter is OK? Today, I fed him toast that was "softer" than what I'd normally eat, with butter and yeast extract spread ( just a scrape of it). Snipped up the toast into baby- bite size...he ate a few pieces before losing interest. Should I have toasted my bread longer and served the "harder" version? What else can i serve with toast? He seems to be very keen on food, always staring at our plates when we have our meals. I think he could be adventurous when it comes to food.
I realise this is hardly rocket science, but I would like to do this right. Thanks everyone.

I am curious as to what the rationale is behind these two statements; (paraphrased from different sources)
"babies should be weaned when they get teeth"
"if they can ask for it they are too old to breastfeed."

I seriously don't understand how anyone can actually logically defend these statements. (They were not presented as opinion, but as stone-cold facts.)

Can anyone explain the reasoning behind such ideas?

What are some good foods to eat to help in milk lactaion?

I am currently taking the herbal pill "fenugreek" and drinking "organic mothers milk tea" to help in good milk lactation but it seems I can't keep a good healthy FULL flow.

Or, is it normal for boobs to look as they did before pregnancy after breastfeeding has begun?

PRAY FOR BABY KALEB ~~ KEEP THIS MOVING!

Kristy Reynolds and her husband are parents to a beautiful little baby boy named Kaleb. He is 6 months and 3 days old. A couple weeks ago Kristy picked Kaleb up from home care and noticed something was wrong. She immediately took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Shaken Baby Syndrome. He now has meningitis in response the the surgeries on his brain, his body can't regulate his temperature, his heart rate drops every time he is moved, and he has seizures. He is also blind. His sitter shook him so hard that he is in a coma, had to have spinal fluid drained from his brain, and doctors think that if he lives he will be a vegetable for the rest of his life. Brain scans show that his brain tissue is dying and his brain is shrinking. Kristy and her husband refuse this diagnosis and pray for their little boy. I'm asking you to join them in this prayer for Kaleb.

I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had any problems/issues with a Bumbo. At first, I LOVED my Bumbo...my baby could sit in it with me in the kitchen, or outside for photos, etc.

Well...one day, I sat her in her Bumbo that I had placed inside of her playpen. I went out to the mailbox, and when I came back she had gotten out of it somehow. I thought...okay...maybe she was able to wiggle out by pushing against the side of the playpen with her feet.

Then...last night I had her in her Bumbo on the kitchen floor (safest place is the floor...) and I went to get something out of the fridge. In the two seconds I looked away, she managed to get out of it and was laying face down on my ceramic tile floor.

Needless to say, I wanted to burn the damn thing in the fireplace, but I put it out in the trash and it is now at the local landfill.

Has anybody else had problems????
