He may be constipated, but as long as he's doesn't seem to be in pain, I wouldn't worry about it. How old is he? My daughter switched to only 1 bowel movement per day around 2 months and now it's only every couple days (3 months). When she has gas issues, we've used Mylicon drops and they've helped.

Check out the link for a more thorough answer, though.

For heaven's sake he is NOT constipated.

Constipation refers to the consistency of the poop--NOT how often they poop.

He is constipated if he is pooping hard pellets. If when he poops it's still liquid, he's NOT constipated.

It is normal for babies to go days, even up to 5 or 6 days without a bowel movement--if he's breastfed. There simply isn't 'waste' with breastmilk. If he's on formula, he can skip a day or so. Just watch out, if they go more than a day they are saving it up for a HUGE elimination. Expect a blow-out soon.

DO NOT feed him anything but milk. He doesn't need Karo, suppositories, juice, sugar or anything else. He's too young and you could do damage to his body.

As long as he's making diapers with pee in them, he's fine.
If the baby goes a day or two without peeing, that's a medical problem that you MUST see your doctor about (he could be dehydrated.)

He grunts and scrunches because his body is getting used to making gas and poop. He is NOT uncomfortable. He's fine.

Is he breastfed? If so then that yellow stuff isn't a real BM, although we moms always refer to it as that. A breastfed baby does not have very much waste to dispose of and can go several days without having a real BM and it's fine. However a formula fed baby should at least BM a day, since they do have impurities to dispose of. Newborn overdue it with pushing because it's still new to them and they don't know how hard they should push. It could simply be gas. It's very very rare for a newborn to be constipated.

How old is your baby? For the first few days newborns often have lots of bowel movements each day, but after a week or 2 they usually start having them less frequently.

He is only considered constipated if his poop is "pellet" like and hard. Breastfed babies can go up to 7 days without a bowel movement. My son had the same problem and we gave him sugar water- 1tsb to 3 oz water worked right away.

Try sticking a thermometer up that area, by doing that it stimulates that natural "pushing" sensation. Kinda like when you choke on something and your natural reaction is to gag and throw up. I doubt that your child is constipated though, it's my understanding that newborns usually have a bowel movement every other day!

That happens every once in awhile, if there is no poop by tomorrow I would call the doctor. Little Remedies makes a constipation medication otherwise depending on your babies age prunes always do the trick for my son.

He might be constipated, but if he had one today then don't do anything about it. You shouldn't worry until it's been a couple of days since the last one.

How old is your newborn? New babies are still getting "familiar" with their body's system. Someone said it might be gas. I tend to agree. But the best person to talk to is your child's doctor. Hope your kid is doing well, and good luck.
