Excema Treatment that is soothing and works!
Pinetarsol:
Extremely soothing on the skin and stops itching.
It is very well known and used widely for excema and many other irritating skin conditions.
It's coloured dark yellow/green and you put about 15mls or a capful into the bath water. It turns the bath water yellowish.
Comes as a Bath Oil with 2.3% purified Pine Tar; 6% triethanolamine lauryl sulphate (pH 6.5)
May only be available through your doctor
Don't use any soap on baby at all.
Use either Aqueous cream
or Pinetarsol bar (1% pine tar)
I use:
In the Bath:
Aqueous cream for soap and Pinetarsol bath oil in the bath
After the Bath:
Alpha Keri Cream for soothing itchiness and dry patches
Nutraplus cream for excema and for dry patches
Lemnis Fatty Cream HC with Hydrocortisone 1% w/w on any red raised excema patches
Good Luck!
No alcohol in ANYTHING I use, nothing burns in the above

Give your baby a bath with oatmea. Aveno sells bath products, but plain oatmeal works just fine. (just don't get flavored oatmeal) If you bye quick oatmeal packets at the store, mix one package in the tub. My daughter has had excema since a baby. I give her a oatmeal bath once a week.

I don't know of any great products really, but my sister and one of my friends have excema and what they do is they take a bath with warm water, fill a sock/pantyhose with oatmeal and scrub themselves with that.....it provides temporary relief. I also found out that one of the attributing factors to excema is heat, so avoid clothing your baby in heavy clothing, or covering him/her with tons of blankets. Also try aveeno, that lotion product may help. good luck

As a Labor & Delivery and Mom/Baby nurse, I have to say that I use Aquaphor on my baby. Also, don't bathe as frequent. A few times per week is all a baby needs. Make sure to keep diaper area clean though!

Gentle Naturals (brand) makes a baby eczema cream that worked wonders for my daughter! The doctors told me just to use that creamy vaseline, but this works much better!

Aveeno wash and lotion with oatmeal is great,Huggies also makes a great sensitive wash and lotion that is amazing for eczema. My son gets small areas on his knees and elbows and my doctor told me as soon as I take him out of the bath to put Vaseline on the areas while they are still wet this will lock in the moisture.Best of luck to you.

Our doctor gave us samples of a cream called ELIDEL.
It was absolutely MAGIC. And incredibly gentle.
Unfortunately, I heard that there are some risks associated with long-term use. But since it's by prescription, you'll have to talk to your pediatrician anyway, and he or she can advise you about whether or not it's right for your baby.

If you have a Babies R' Us near you (or any type of store similar) they should have a section for lotions and creams for it. My sister bought a jar of ecxema cream that really seemed to work without hurting my nephew.

I agree with the first poster, it isn't a cure, but it does help. And now the new Creamy Vasaline is really great.
