I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had any problems/issues with a Bumbo. At first, I LOVED my Bumbo...my baby could sit in it with me in the kitchen, or outside for photos, etc.
Well...one day, I sat her in her Bumbo that I had placed inside of her playpen. I went out to the mailbox, and when I came back she had gotten out of it somehow. I thought...okay...maybe she was able to wiggle out by pushing against the side of the playpen with her feet.
Then...last night I had her in her Bumbo on the kitchen floor (safest place is the floor...) and I went to get something out of the fridge. In the two seconds I looked away, she managed to get out of it and was laying face down on my ceramic tile floor.
Needless to say, I wanted to burn the damn thing in the fireplace, but I put it out in the trash and it is now at the local landfill.
Has anybody else had problems????

Hi, First of all, how old is your baby? I wouldn't say I've necessarily had a *problem* yet, (my daughter is almost 7 months), but they do mention in the brochure that comes with the Bumbo that babies get to a certain point where they are able to get out of it (some earlier than others). It is true that the floor is the safest place; as I say "you can't fall off the floor", but when a child gets strong enough, they will arch their back and get free. I think it is an awesome invention, as my daughter doesn't particularly like to sit by herself yet. However, I always make sure to watch her when she's in it. I wish there would be one invention that would keep them in one spot without the risk of them falling or getting hurt. I guess maybe putting her in said playpen without the landfill-bound Bumbo might be a good idea. Hope this helps! :) Good luck!

I would personally wait until you've had your baby and see then as things for baby's do add up! The bumbo was a life saver for me whilst weaning- he was too small for the high hair and wasn't sitting upright enough in the bouncer. Bumbo is also good for helping babies to sit upright. Good luck :)

I have heard of similar things happening. I honestly loved the bumbo seat while my daughter was between the ages of 4 and 8 months. I never left her alone in it though and I don't think people should.

I think its funny that on the packaging it has one year olds at a birthday party. By eight months my daughter could place her feet on the floor and almost stand up with it. As they grow, the function of the bumbo changes. Now I could see myself using it at the beach or as a high chair booster. She definitely needs constant supervision in it now.

I love mine. My son just turned 5 months old and i've noticed that he is almost able to "escape" also! He arches his back and pushes with his feet. He almost did a back flip out of it yesterday! Well it was great for a while!

I'd never even heard of one until my sister (whose twins are 1 week older than my 6 month old) told me that she was so excited to get one, but that it didn't really work the way she thought it would so she's disappointed.

i never got one because i was always worried about my baby's spine (i'm a little extra paranoid), since it's made for babies who can't sit up yet. so when they are able to sit up all by themselves you're supposed to stop using it. how old is your baby? i have a friend in california who swore it was the best ever when he baby was 3 months old.

I loved mine, too. But once my son could crawl, he learned how to roll out of it. I think they're great, but can only realistically be used for a short period of time.
