My boy's 11 months old, and getting tired of his baby cereal and oatmeal ( porridge) for breakfast. Toast is an obvious alternative. He has not shown any food allergies so far, hence I think spreading unsalted butter is OK? Today, I fed him toast that was "softer" than what I'd normally eat, with butter and yeast extract spread ( just a scrape of it). Snipped up the toast into baby- bite size...he ate a few pieces before losing interest. Should I have toasted my bread longer and served the "harder" version? What else can i serve with toast? He seems to be very keen on food, always staring at our plates when we have our meals. I think he could be adventurous when it comes to food.
I realise this is hardly rocket science, but I would like to do this right. Thanks everyone.

At this age, my kids both like dry toast and soon graduated to a little butter and a sprinkle of sugar/cinnamon mixture. Tortillas, graham crackers, crusty bread, and cold noodles or pasta were also favorites at breakfast. I never cut up toast. I cut the slice into four triangles and said "here you go, don't choke."

You can also try sliced or chopped soft fruit, grated apple, shredded meat, whatever you are eating! I also served scrambled eggs at this age. Oh yeah, and pancakes with fruit in the batter. And waffles. My kids were hogs.

OK, I know that PeterA is being a smartass, but babies love talking food! I would try it if the baby hesitates to try new things.

My daughter likes it with jelly on it. I use Trappist Preserves Blueberry preserves. It has real blueberries in it. I think that is why it is her favorite. Last time I gave it to her, she had jelly all over her face because she was biting the blueberries off the top of the toast without biting the toast! Polanar All-Fruit would be a good alternative if the pieces are a problem for your son.

Toast a piece of bread and cool a bit. Cut in half--triangles work good--and give it to him. He is old enough to eat baby finger foods and toast will turn to mush pretty quickly in his mouth. It is completely safe at this point. No need for anything on the toast yet.

Why just toast? Why not some eggs or something with a little more taste than toast? Maybe a piece of fruit like a banana or apple ? You don't always want to give your child bland food that maybe why he lost interest in it he may want something with a little more taste.By the time that my children were 11 to 12 months old they were eating every thing that we were except things that could make them sick like peanut butter or grapes or small things unless they were really small like peas. Try giving him one thing from your plate and only one thing in case he reacts to it. If you give him to many new things you won't know which one he's reacting to. Give him something new each week and give him a week to decide if he likes it or if his body reacts to it. IF he likes it and doesn't react to it add something new the next week until you've broaden his culinary taste and to prevent him from becoming a picky eater make sure that he at lest takes two bites out of anything new when he gets older sometimes it takes a few bites to decide if you like something. This approach worked for me and I have three girls and they all eat well.

toasting it a bit more and putting it into narrow strips might help. Then spread a small amount of sugar-free applesauce on it.

This what the baby can hold one end and bite a piece off. That might help.
