Adolescent - January 2007

Here's the problem - my 12yo son is a big kid, he's never been on the small side. Over the past year or two, though, he's gained quite a bit of weight. He's not horribly obese, (about 5'3" and 165 lbs) but definitely more than mildly overweight.
I know the obvious solution is eating better and more exercise. But, his appetite is huge... he's not a veggie eater, fruits are ok. I need some ideas on what he can eat that's filling but not fattening.
Activity - little to none. I know, go outside and play, right? Except we live in a very isolated area with no other kids, so there's not much to do. Honestly, he's just become very lazy, would prefer to do nothing at all if given a choice. (Yes, he's seeing a counselor for depression). His boredom is a big part of the depression.Other problem is that I can't leave the house after 5pm - I have another son who is disabled, and taking him with us to a karate class or the Y isn't an option. Need some suggestions on physical activities.

I have a daughter who is 16 and she is more with the cheerleaders and athletes which makes sense because she is a cheerleader and an athlete.
My other daughter is 14 and she is more with the rockers, or the "freaks" which I find fine because they are nice kids, well the ones she hangs out with.
A party is coming up at my house and I am worried what should I do if their is a conflict between the two groups. At school, the two clicks have issues what should I do if there are problems at my house or should I just let them pick friends that they both are friends with.

Is it right to brag about your kids a little. I find myself talking about my two girls a lot to my neighbors and I recently noticed how much I really talked about them. I was wondering if it is right to brag about your kids as much as I do which is almost everyday to both of my neighbors. Hopefully this question makes sense. Just recently I witnessed a murder(it was reported to the police)and the murderer threatened to kill me when he gets out of jail. I have had lots of thoughts about death. Not anything about killing myself, but just actually thinking about what happens when people die. It also doesn't help that last summer my grandmother passed away.

My parents have brought me to a phycologist but I'm not sure it is helping. I have dreams where the murderer is coming to my home and breaking in, and then shoots me. This has been going on for about 3 months.

Please,if anyone has been through the same thing, HELP!

My friends all say I am whipped b/c I went to my g/f's conference meet and when she sprained her ankle I carried her to the trainer (not hard, she weighs like 100lbs max.) and then helped her walk to the podium to get her 2nd place medal

My sister was grounded for the past two weeks for cussing at mom. She's 11.
All week long she was kissing up to mom to get out of her last day of grounding but mom wouldn't give in.

So my sister snuck out of her window and went to a basketball game, my little brother ratted her out to mom just to get her in trouble. Which she did.

I'm still in shock that mom actually put her across her knee
and spanked her, my mom never spanked any of us, she
popped us on the butt but nothing like what my sister got.
Besides the spanking mom grounded Heather for 1 month!

I know what my sister did was wrong, but if mom would of
let her go to the game she would of never sneaked out.
All this could of been avoided.

Don't you think thats too much punishment for my sister?
Should I speak to mom and try to get the grounding down to
2 weeks?

I read comments on here everyday blaming the parents, society, media, etc. Do we really know where teen parenting stems from though? One teen may be allowed to do as they please while another teen has to follow very strict rules. Another teen may have open and honest parents while another may have parents that won't even get into the whole "birds and the bees," talk. Does it depend on each individual and their circumstances or is there one specif sorce to blame?
