My baby is only 4 days old today but I'm having a really hard time with latching on. I met with the breast feeding consultants a few times at the hospital and they helped me get the baby latched on correctly but I can't seem to do it at home. I try and try and try at every feeding but it doesn't seem to work. I think I've done it successfully once. My nipples are very sore...I've been using lanolin so hopefully they won't crack or bleed or anything. I really want to breastfeed for as long as I can and having this problem is bothering me to no end. What can I do? What are some good sites to check out? If you had this problem what did you do to correct it and how long did it take to get it right? Thanks in advance. Serious answers only please.

I'm due in 2 months and the whole pregnancy I've been freaking out because my last labour was 37 hours in total (9 hours active labour) and I was exhausted because I hadn't slept in ages and bed ridden because my son's heart beat was going down with each contraction and I was induced so the contractions were severe. I started going crazy, I started hearing things and imagining things and I really couldn't handle the pain after that long. I'm petrified this labour is going to be as long and/or as painful as the last (i know it's supposed to be easier the second time round but I still think it's going to be a long one). Has anybody done or tried anything that has helped relieve the pain besides drugs because I ended up hacing an epidural with the last one and now I suffer from lower back problems and don't want to make it worse! and the other drugs the doctors offered me didn't do anything for the pain, just made be docile

My bestfriends parents dont treat her well. My bestfriend is a straight-A student, is on highest honors, and the track and volleyball teams. But she is always, and I mean ALWAYS grounded. I think the last time we did something together was Halloween, yeah sad I know. She has even said her parents slap her. I confronted her about it and she said they dont do it often and they dont do it hard, and that she has even wondered if it was abuse, but she said it wasnt. What should I do? Confront her parents? Call DCFS or Supernanny? Stay quiet and let her parent turn this kid into a rebel? HELP!!

Here is our dilema, our son has befriended a kid in our neighborhood that we know has had a rough upbringing. His parents went through a nasty divorce a few years back and both of their kids were dragged through the mud. The boy my son is friends with has in the past had some serious behavior problems. He has been in trouble with the police, dropped out of school in grade 9, dabbled in drugs. Anyway the point is alot of kids in our community do not like this kid and now they don't like my son because he is friends with him. I am proud of my son because he chooses his friends based on their personalities not because of others opinions. Now what is happening is my son is being threatened by these kids and they showed up at his school yesterday to "teach him a lesson" I raced to the school to pick up my son. Now the emails we are getting from these kids are filled with name calling, threats, and ignorant statements. Now I am aware that my son has probably shot his mouth off to these kids.

Most people who answered my last question suggested I let him use a sippy cup. Problem is, I've tried that. He doesn't want it. But he does love cups. So, what should I do? I really want him to be able to do it himself, which is why I want him to use the sippy cup. But he prefers a cup. And he's not cordinated enough yet to drink from a cup byy himself, so you have to help him.

What should I do?

I have heard so many people around me predict the unborn child's sex from their mom's appearace. for example they say if the mom is having a bright skin and looks more beautiful she will have a girl but if a mom skin become darker or less beautiful she will have a boy. Does anyone have any idea about this?
Thanks in advance.

My daughter's hair is a nice medium ash brown, shiny, and soooo thin. It won't grow long either. She doesn't have any medical problems - just got shortchanged one the hair genes. We buy lots of pink clothes to avoid confusion but still she's occasionally mistaken for a boy. My hair (I'm the mom) is long and thick, her father's is fine textured and receding. Does anyone else's child have hair like this? I've had two different women make comments about her hair - wondering why we would cut it in a such a short shag, and maybe she got some scissors and did it to herself?! It's so thin I can barely keep a barette in it. I'm afraid this may start affecting her self esteem, especially when she starts school. Will it ever thicken up?
And no, I don't make this an issue with her or say anything to give her a complex about it.

Hi, I rarely ever get my period, perhaps once or twice a year....

i've been told by the gyni that this doesn't mean i am not ovulating, there is no family history of difficulty in getting pregnant. I'm confused as to why im not conceiving.

Have any of you been through the same situation and had children afterward? did you have to have any treatment?....

Can anyone recommend the right amount of sleep for my baby to have in the day time? She's nearly twelve weeks and currently goes to bed at about 10pm, sleeps till approximately 4-5am, when she wakes for a feed. She goes back down again really easily and wakes naturally at about 8.30am. Currently I haven't got any defined naptimes in the day, she generally just sleeps when she wants to and I'll put her in her rocker chair. However I do want to establish at least one defined and regular naptime in the day where she should go to sleep properly in her moses basket and I can get things done!! Does anyone have a recommendation as to what time this nap should be, how long and how should I fit in her feeds around it? Any input would be appreciated!!

I am asking this on the US forums because over in America people seem to dislike dairy products.

Basically threough my own (possibley very flawed) reasoning I don't think it is a great idea to give my kids milk and other dairy products. To me it just doesnt sem natural. Looking for info on this on the web is confusing at best.

So what I want to to know is do you give your children dairy products and why?

If not how do they get their calicium?

and lastly, what about breakfast cereal?

A teacher by trade, I enjoy my career. It's family friendly, has great benefits and is a good income. And I love my class and school (a K-6 with three mixed-grade rooms).

My son (1st) is in the room below mine and *loves* the fact that I'm in his school every day, all day. He can't wait til 2nd when he gets to be in my room through 4th grade.
My daughter starts K next year and will be in 2nd when my son is in 4th (not really something I'm looking forward to)

I taught full time for 2 yrs, moved with my husband's job, and subbed for 2 yrs before my babies were born. Then I was home for 6. This year is my first one back and I've had such a hard time deciding what I think of it.

I love my job and I don't want to be unprofessional and quit after only a year in a new school, but I feel like I'm losing these years with my kids. I'm always so rushed in the evenings/weekends catching up on stuff I can't do during the day. And I don't know that I want to live for the summers.

but we had no money. now i have a steady job, and we can afford holidays, i want to take my fiance to bali for a holiday, and really let our hair down. but my fiance insists we take out daughter. when we are planning to leave, she will be over 12 months old, and both our parents have offered to mind our daughter for the 5 days we will be away. i cant believe that i am feeling resentlful of my own daughter.
are there any other first time fathers, or mothers out there who have experienced the same thing? i love my daughter to death, but feel like i am a bad parent for wanting to have just my fiance and i on a holiday.
what do people think?
