Can anyone recommend the right amount of sleep for my baby to have in the day time? She's nearly twelve weeks and currently goes to bed at about 10pm, sleeps till approximately 4-5am, when she wakes for a feed. She goes back down again really easily and wakes naturally at about 8.30am. Currently I haven't got any defined naptimes in the day, she generally just sleeps when she wants to and I'll put her in her rocker chair. However I do want to establish at least one defined and regular naptime in the day where she should go to sleep properly in her moses basket and I can get things done!! Does anyone have a recommendation as to what time this nap should be, how long and how should I fit in her feeds around it? Any input would be appreciated!!

It matters when she naps because I want to get her going to sleep by herself, and in her moses basket, not just wherever she happens to be at the time. It's better for her to be in her moses basket when she's asleep.

It sounds like you're already on the right track, and you're very lucky if your baby sleeps that much at night at that age. At three months old, both of my babies were still taking at least three naps a day, although they were not at all scheduled and sometimes there were more. I think it is absurd to suggest that a 3-month old baby could stay awake from 8:30 am until 1pm or even noon. My 13-month old can't even stay awake for much more than three hours at a stretch.
I would consider going to Elizabeth Pantley's website and getting her book "The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Babies". She has some excellent ideas for creating healthy sleep patterns for babies (and other children), and it's never too early to start, even if you're not having problems right now. Babies at 3 months old need 14-15 hours of sleep per day, which can be divided up as 10 hours at night, and five hours during the day (broken into three naps). Of course, remember that every baby is different and yours may need more or less than that suggestion.
Good luck!

Best answer is you are going to have to let her decide that. She will soon get into a sleep habit, and you'll be able to tell when she will be ready. My daughter is now 8 months old and was on a similar time schedule. She started off napping around 1 and then again around 6. For the past few months, she wakes up around 7:00, and is ready for a good (2 hours) nap around 10 or so. I usually put her down again around 3 or 4. This nap isn't as long as the first, but still a good hour. Try to pay attention to when she is getting tired, it'll start being the same time each day. Plan a feeding about 30 minutes before that. She'll have a nice full belly and will be ready for a nice snooze. Good luck!!

My little one is 5 months and she really doesn't have a set time that she naps, I let her decide when shes tired. When you see that shes getting tired put her in her basket to sleep. Once she is the rocker chair she is naturally going to dose off, so instead put her in the basket and try that. Shes to young to really start getting a schedule going, every day is different, and more or less activity can alter how many naps and how long she naps for.

I totally relate to you, because I also want to have everything perfectly scheduled with my son (also 3 mo.)
But regarding naps I was very lucky. He basically decided when he wanted to take naps, and gradually it became a rutine.
He goes to bed around 10 or 11 pm. Sleeps until 6 or 7 am. when he feeds. He plays around for one or two hours and naturally, by himself goes back to sleep for three hours.
then wakes up and feeds again.
This time he is awake for 2 or 3 hours. And when I notice he starts getting tired, I put him in his rocker which I put in the door of the bathroom, and I proceed to take a shower with the door open and at the door. (where I can watch him and he can watch me too, so he doesnt feel lonley)
The sound of the water runing makes him fall sleep in less than 5 min.
And for this nap he'll sleep aroun 1.5 to 2 hours.
Then he wakes up and plays a little before feeding time again.
And around 5 or 6 pm I like him to take another short nap, so that he is not that tired when daddy comes home.

If she wakes up naturally at 8:30 then spend time with her in the morning and give her a bottle and cereal, etc by about noon, she should go to sleep for about 2-3 hours hopefully so you can get something done.

nicely my 3 month previous in basic terms sleeps approximately 8 hours in a 24 hour era yet I dont think of this is widely used... she in basic terms refuses to nap! the only way i will get her to sleep in any respect in the process the day is when I take her for an hour long walk in the stroller on a daily basis. each so often I wish she might nap so i might desire to get some stuff completed around the homestead...

Does it really matter what time she naps? When she naps get stuff done.
I sort of had a schedule with my son when he was that age but it was more about the order things happened in.
