Have you ever been tested for (P)oly(C)ystic (O)varian
(S)ydrome or PCOS. Since I "started" my period at 11 it was never "normal". I would see then it would go 6months, or 8months or I would see normally 2 months and not see again for 11months. At 16, I was soo tired of not knowing when I was going to start or not, I saw a gyn. I was told it's just a hormone imbalance, because your fat. Try to lose weight. I cried myself to sleep for a long time, because I was told this for years.I was married at 22 and I was told you will NEVER get preg. go home and be happy with your husband.Until I found a wonderful doc. that forever changed my life, he was an Ob/Gyn. that specialized in infertility. For the first time in my life, I was told lets run all the tests we can and find out what's wrong. I was then diagnosed with PCOS. 6 months after visiting this doc. (he had prescribed Clomid from the first visit) I found out I was finally preg., I was preg. with twins, but miscarried one. Don't you know 2.5 years later almost to the day, I found out I was preg.(no help) with my second daughter. DON"T GIVE UP! I was told I would NEVER,EVER have children! I am the mother of two beautiful daughters today. If your not happy with your gyno, change him/her. I saw 5 seperate doctors before I found the right one!
Good luck and Best wishes!

I would tend to disagree with your doctor. If I were you, I would seek a different opinion or perhaps consult with a fertility specialist, especially if you are trying to get pregnant.
While 2 periods a year doesn't necessarily mean that you are only ovulating twice a year, I would tend to think that you are not ovulating regularly and are therefore less likely to get pregnant. Have you always been like this? I don't know why your doctor would completely disregard the possibility of fertility issues just because people in your family get pregnant easily.
Are there any other factors? If you have just come off the Pill, if you have gotten Depo Provera in the past, if you suffer from eating disorders, if you are particularly athletic, etc, all these things can contribute to an irregular period. You need to get to the root of why you are not getting regular periods.
Like I said, consult with a different doctor and get a second opinion.

Not to get your hopes up. I worked with a lady who only 2-3 periods a yr. She got re-married and without having a period she got pregnant. She said that happened with her other 2 children as well. So it must be possible. Are you trying to monitor your basal body temperature? Try this.. it can give you some input on your body and possible ovulation. Look up free fertility charts.. there are some good websites out there that can help you.

My sister had the same problem. It ended up being that she wasn't ovulating consistently. She went to a specialist that prescribed clomid to help along ovualiton and after 2 cycles, she got pregnant iwht my niece.

ask your doctor about prometrium to jumpstart your period and then clomid to help you ovulate. it has worked for a lot of people...

it could be because of stress or if you do strenuous work. This can stop your period for a while.
