The materials used to make the shoes actually represent and extremely small proportion of the cost. Most of it is in the skills and equipment needed to make the shoes. The equipment is pretty much identical but it actually takes more skill to make small shoes than big ones. They can take longer to make, and they need to be tougher than adult shoes as they tend to suffer more abuse. On the face of it, it may seem crazy, but if you put an adults feet in shoes that aren't quite a perfect fit it causes discomfort, most sensible adults will just stop wearing them if they are too bad. A child's feet are different, the bones are very soft and easily damaged, much more care has to be taken with children's, therefore the price is higher.
With clothes again, the time and the expertise are more or less the same, the materials are the least expensive part of the process.
Also there is the economies of scale argument to consider. The more of something that is bought the cheaper it is as a rule. Why for example, are christmas cards so much cheaper than birthday cards? Simple because people buy more or them. There are more adults around than children, people are usually adults much longer than they are children and adults tend to have more clothes as most parents consider the fact that children grow out of things so where as an adult male might have 20 shirts for work the chances are his son only has 3 or 4 school shirts because in a years time he'll need 3 or 4 more.
so that's it basically, it's annoying, but that's economics for you.

Because Babies Grow More Than Adults And They Need More Clothes Than Adults.Because Adults Pretty Much Wear The Same Thing Every Day.

I don't think baby clothes do, but the shoes do sometimes. I was going to buy my daughter the cutest pair of purple Jordan's. I asked how much they were and they were $35. I said "no" because I had just bought myself a pair of shoes for $40. A five dollar difference between a size 3 in infants and a size 9 in woman's. That is ridiculous. I will stick to the $5 shoes at Wal-Mart for now.

Well there are a couple of reasons. #1 Its a necessity I mean all clothes is, but with babies they are always growing so fast that you always have to buy more and more clothes. #2 People are so excited when their new baby arrives they spend top dollar to get their child everything. They go crazy because they have anew baby and its this wonderful experience. The baby clothing market knows it, and capitalizes on it. Take it from me I have a 6 month old son, and I lose control in the stores sometimes because everything looks so cute and I just think to myself "oh my god he has to have it!" I know Im being suckered in a way but I dont care, cuz its for my son.

Where are you getting these clothes? Because the clothes I bought my son didn't cost that much. I would go to Target or Burlington Coat Factory. They are cheap and sometimes you can buy whole outfits. No point in spending a lot of money on baby/toddler clothes when they out-grow them so fast.

When my kids were little I did buy the very best shoes because the doctor recommended it for growing feet and because they where learning how to walk.
Clothes--Walmart which has very cute and cheap clothes and a good second hand store in a upper class neighborhood. I never had to pay a lot for clothes.

Thats why I buy used on e-bay. The child probably wore the shoes 3 times, and I end up getting them for less then 1/2 the price. Just crazy!

Where do you shop? I got my 11 month old son a new pair of trainers yesterday for £5 in H&M, I got him loads of t-shirts in New Look for £1 and Jeans in Tesco's for £3. Now if that's dearer than our clothes, tell me where to buy for me!!!
Avoid shops like Next, Mothercare, Mama's and Papa's, and Adams, they will cost more. You need to learn to be a bargain hunter when you have a baby!!

Babies are more precious. Babies are in less number than adults. Babies have no money, but adults have. OK? Now tell me, why baby shoes and clothes cost more than adult 's?

Even more crazy... why does a coat for a Baby Annabell doll cost more than a coat you would buy for a really baby?? I saved most of my twin daughters clothes from when they were born. My girls were preemie so their baby clothes are idea for them to dress their dolls at no extra expense to me!
