A tragic and sad fact is that most Republicans/Conservatives get their information from O'Reilly, Coulter, Malkin, Hannity, Larry Kudlow and Limbaugh, and these people fear or hate almost everything with a passion. (Except money)
(In fact, their business is fomenting fear, dissent and hatred.)
Only when the US starts ignoring this media fear/hate-mongering, will there be any hope of peace in the world.
Opinions?

I am totally frustrated and disgusted with the level of corruption and self serving decisions and policies in our nation today.
I believe the only way to get the most honest and just government today without bloodshed is to continually disrupt the "MACHINE" Think it's worth a shot, or do you see another solution? I don't. Please don't tell me it would create bedlam or disaster because we have that now.

The DC prostitute fan. David Vitter's campaign statement on protecting the "sanctity of marriage":

"This is a real outrage. The Hollywood left is redefining the most basic institution in human history, and our two U.S. Senators won't do anything about it. "

"We need a U.S. Senator who will stand up for Louisiana values, not Massachusetts's values. I am the only Senate Candidate to coauthor the Federal Marriage Amendment; the only one fighting for its passage. I am the only candidate proposing changes to the senate rules to stop liberal obstructionists from preventing an up or down vote on issues like this, judges, energy, and on and on."

the "Surge" is working or not? And since they can't secure the Iraqi borders to stop terrorists from entering Iraq what difference does it make how many terrorists there killing w/ the Surge if they are just as easily replaced?

In other words, there is no way of knowing if Bush's Surge is working or not & it's mostly likely not working because the US military can't secure Iraq's borders. So what is the point of having a "Surge" unless it's a "Surge" of 300,000 new troops or more?

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of things I can do to better spend my time then sitting online all day making obscure political arguments in the hopes that I will feel somehow adequate? I just started Yahoo Answers this week and was hoping the political section would be a forum for interesting viewpoints and informative answers about the government, not a "I know more random, out of context political quotes than you do!" So my question is: What do you like about this country? Not what do you like to complain about or what do you like to hate more, but rather - What Do You Like?

HOUSTON — A state lawmaker who opposed a bill giving Texans stronger right to defend themselves with deadly force pulled a gun and shot a man he says was trying to steal copper wiring from a construction site, police said Monday.

Rep. Borris Miles told police he was fixing a leak on the second floor of the Houston house he's building Sunday night when he heard a noise downstairs and saw two men trying to steal the copper. After Miles confronted the pair, one of the men threw a pocketknife at him, Houston Police spokesman Victor Senties.

Miles, a former law enforcement officer, shot the man in the left leg, police said. The wounded suspect was being treated at a Houston hospital. Police were trying to identify the other suspect.

Charges of aggravated robbery are pending against the wounded suspect, Senties said.

Police said Miles, who is in his freshman term, is licensed to carry a concealed weapon. No charges have been filed against Miles, Senties said.

Talk about accountability in government! This guy took bribes leading to all the tainted food and drugs that China exports we've all been hearing about. So they executed him. Somebody should tell the Chinese how Capitalism works. You gotta grease the wheels a little sometimes.

Michael Moore's movie showed actual and that is "actual" footage..it was not doctored, no pun intended, and it showed America's trusted politicians blatantly lying about healthcare in Canada and other countries..why are they not charged or confronted for lying to the public..why do these people keep getting elected. Please no Michael Moore line, I have heard them all..He should be a heor to the average American.

I really think right wing thinking eats away at a person's beauty.
Yes, I'm totally biased, and it's my opinion, so it's not scientific, but I think it should be studied. So much hate, antipathy, and bigotry can't make someone prettier, can it?

Enoch Powell is most remembered for his “Rivers of Blood” speech, which is often used by the far right anti-immigrationists and anti-multiculturalists as justification for discrimination and bigotry. As a result, he has been vilified and demonised by many on the left as bigot and a racist himself.

And yet Powell was a strong proponent of social justice, a stance that often set him at loggerheads with his own party. He supported the abolition of the death penalty, and on numerous occasions voted against its return. He was in favour of homosexual law reform, supporting the legalisation of homosexuality and fairer treatment of homosexuals.
