the "Surge" is working or not? And since they can't secure the Iraqi borders to stop terrorists from entering Iraq what difference does it make how many terrorists there killing w/ the Surge if they are just as easily replaced?

In other words, there is no way of knowing if Bush's Surge is working or not & it's mostly likely not working because the US military can't secure Iraq's borders. So what is the point of having a "Surge" unless it's a "Surge" of 300,000 new troops or more?

When the terrorist bombings in certain areas cease and the body count goes up, they will know. They DON'T know how many there are, no one does.

first of all, it will take time for you to see a major difference with the surge. they had to train these troops for X weeks, takes X weeks to ship them to Iraq, and X weeks to get them settled and retrained for Iraq once they get there, and X weeks to get orders and deploy them to wherever it is they need to go... i don't know the exact time frame for all this to happen. all i know is, this won't happen over night. not for MANY nights...and it doesn't take 300,000 troops to make an impact. 30,000 will do just fine. we just need to shut the damn borders. kill all who try to cross. kill all who engage. then work inward. we could have the border shut down in 2-3 weeks. gauranteed.

It's not an exact science. It's more like a census. its based on intelligence sources, monitored "chatter", and reduction of "incidents". If you notice a drop in any or all of these, it's a pretty good indication that it's working.

The only way to win this war, if we can call it a war, is to level the country to rubble, occupy it and start rebuilding all over again. Anything short of this will not work and will drag on forever!
