On D Day, why did the Allies first send in ground troups to secure Normandy, instead of using the guns from the big ships to obliterate the beach heads and clear a path for the invasion?

All I need to know is the order for book four. I found general info, and some photos, but nothing for the order of the entire book...

If anyone knows where to find the complete order of book four, I'd really appreciate it.

Every time I come into the Military section of Y!A at least one person is ranting about instituting a draft. For the life of me--I cannot understand why someone would think this.

The US Government is currently downsizing the military by 40%. In the Air Force there is a "Blue to Green" program to promote the men who get discharged from the Air Force to join the Army. We have more recruits then ever for all branches and this is nothing like Vietnam--where people simply were not enlisting.

I just cannot for the life of me understand why someone would think we're going to start a draft. Any opinions or answers would be greatly appreciated!

Before you start blasting.... Why can't the US / America win when it comes to the world opinions about us. I'm in the US Army and currently deployed to Afghanistan. I read the questions/political statement in here and international news. If the US doesn't intervin, we are wrong. Once we do intervin we are war mongers. It makes me wish American would have just minded it's own business the last 100 or so years. Europe / Russia / Africa / Asia and most of the rest of the world would be speaking German or Japanese now. Which countries that currently bad mouth the US would even be countries? If the US pulled all of it's troops out of the 116 countries where they currently are (wow big number, but accurate), for about 10 years or so, would the world be a better place?

I am just trying to figure out why the USA has become so short sited . . . would we have been able to handle (from a public relations stand point) Iwo Jima or Normandy?

The life of EVERY soldier is a devestation to our country, but was this not true in WWII? How do we now look back on those times?

Saddam was committing genocide. Does that not deserve interventions? If not, what does?
