I think they could do it if women were allowed in the Seals. I know it is hard training but some one can do it.

The base part of the answer to your questions is "are woman allowed in combat". According to the US Congress the answer is NO. OK before i got 15 thumbs down and a ton of people saying that my sister or who ever is over there. According to the rules set by congress they are not in a combating role. And yes i know that this is just a but of red tape munbo jumbo and a play of words, but that would be the main reason they are not excepted into the Seal. G.I.Jane while being entertainment , is afilm, not based on any actual person or events in the US Navy or the Seal Program. The rest I will speak from being in the Navy for 20 years and being a recruiter for 6 of those. The Seal program it is a very tough program. It has a very high drop rate. From what i was told while i was recruiting that only 40% make it past the Basic part . ( Also known as B.U.D.S ) This is not without having another percentage not making it to a " TEAM" during the combat swimmer , Jump or follow up training. Sure, I bet the right Woman can get through this .... but congress is making that call ...not the Navy not the Seal Team and not Hollywood.

Growing up military and being in the military you get to learn a different way of thinking. Women are in every job in the military except for a few positions. We have women pilots and SEAR trainers . Never doubt a woman can do what a man can do.
As far as WHY?
the only quote I could find was
"By law, only men are eligible to apply for the SEAL program."

This is a policy of Congress and not the NAVY I have been told. So I hope this helps its not the policy of the military to discriminate thats the politicians job.

To the above, woman have less cases of PTSD because they aren't allowed into combat. If they find themselves in combat, it will be likely that it will not match the level of intensity that a good portion of male soldier will go through.

As for becoming a seal, woman do not have the physical strength necessary to complete training. If you elminate the rules about the ban, and the tests of physical strength, then I would say they could, but it would take a special type of woman to pass training and be a good SEAL.

From what I've gathered, it would be hard for a female to endure the discrimination from the men. Forget the training, which I do think some women could pass. These men do not want women in the Navy SEALS. They want them behind them, baking cookies and supporting their testosterone filled urges.

I very seriously doubt that any woman is capable of passing the physical and mental stress to become a SEAL. I don't say this in a derogatory way, but even some of the most fit men don't make it.

Unless women take steroids, they will be unable because of the nature of their hormones preventing the buildup of muscle mass, from becoming as strong as a Navy Seal. Why would any woman want to go to war in the first place?

If women can have babies then I believe that some of them could pass the tremendous test of the Navy Seals.

Yes they could.

And to the people above... My cousin is an interpreter and has gone and MANY covert missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Many of these special forces that she has gone with have started requesting her. Because she is good not just at her job, but she keeps up, etc.

Women in combat have a lower incidence of PTSD.
