Actually, your ignorance of your own history is betrayed by this stupid question.
Firstly, your country REBELLED at taxation without representation and British custoims on your imports as well as British impositions of limits on land owners greedy for expansion into Indian territory, whom all had treaties with Britain. The war was not for freedom, but for ECONOMIC gain, as most wars tend to be- Britain wanted to retain a valuable resource.

The British were actually not defeated, they simply quit the field as the war in Europe involving France was far larger, far more important and required resources that were being wasted in a GUERRILLA war in colonial continental America.
The Yorktown defeat resulted in the Prime Minister quitting and a new, Appeasement party coming to power that wanted peace negotiations.
You also seem to forget Washington was defeated far more times than Lord Cornwallis.
You seem to forget that the British marched back into Washington and burnt it to the ground thus winning the Second American-British war.
America has still not compensated Loyalist & Neutral Americans who moved to Canada for loss of property, as would be the case in any independence movement.
Actually, Canadians are very proud of being undefeated as are we English for burning your sh!tty Capital Hill to the ground.
If you annoying Americans had have remained greatful subjects of the Crown, your country wouldn't be the dung-hill of ignorance it is today, and instead would be a pleasant country like Canda.
You should really READ a non-American history book- they tend to lack the propaganda.

I am Canadian. Always been, born here. Hockey-playing, beer-drinking (used to, anyway) Canuck, eh?

I think you're talking about your Revolutionary War. If you are, you'll be surprised to learn that many people from the colonies moved north to Canada because they WANTED to remain loyal to the British crown. They're called United Empire Loyalists. They came up here in the 1700's and established much of Upper Canada, which is now largely Ontario.

The Town of York was founded in 1793 and grew into the City of Toronto, which now has a population of about 4 or 5 million people.

Canada became independent of British rule between WW1 and WW2.

We're not mad at you at all. We just can't understand why you show up in the summer here in 90F temperatures with skis on your roofracks, looking for the nearest slopes (really happened to my brother-in-law, he couldn't believe it. He was pumping gas at a Canadian Tire gas bar and they drove up, wanted to know where the nearest slopes were. He gave them directions to British Columbia.)

Who was fighting for your independence them or you? Your sentence suggests that it was the Candians, not the terrorist yanks, who were fighting for US independence.

What does this tell us about you? You are unable to express yourself properly in your mother tongue even when given the opportunity to plan and think about what you want to say then write it. You are ignorant and of low intelligence. Is this true of most Americans? Is this true of most people?

Let's face it, the Canadians are far more civilised than you are and I think even red necks like you are starting to realise this. They took a peaceful, civilised path to independence. Your independence is based upon violent revolution, terrorism. No one, and no nation, can escape its past and you are the ones who are jealous.

Mind you, they've got shitty weather up there so they might be jealous of your climate if nothing else.

First let me be the first to thank you for asking such a stupid question.

"You're welcome."

You are on a long list of evidence to support the American depression era philosopher Elmore Miller's thesis that " Stupidity is rampant in the land." For that I also thank you.

If you were to embark on a journey of education and thinking, you might come to realize that there are many peoples in Canada: aboriginals, Europeans,Asians, etc.; not unlike the United States. However there are some peoples whose story is far more unfortunate than those who landed directly on American shores, for example, the poor Scots who were persecuted by the British and driven from their land during the Highland Clearances.

But I digress a bit.

And I thank you again for inspiring me to ask a new question on Yahoo Answers "Why are Americans so stupid, huh?"

I wasn't aware Canadians were mad about this. Then again I AM your typical ignorant American who knows little of our snowy northern neighbors history.

I heard they use the world "hoser" a lot.
