But there are also striking similarities: an inability to turn military superiority into political victory; a credibility gap between the comments of U.S. leaders and the reality on the ground; and dwindling public support. Those parallels are why it's worth comparing the post-withdrawal fears in Vietnam three decades ago with Iraq today.

After all you know deep in your heart that life after death is only a hope. If you were an Iraqi suicide bomber you killed yourself and people of your own ethnic group, people who believe in the same Allah that you do - people whom you might have liked if you had known them. Do you really believe for certain that you are going to live after death in some kind of paradise? I can't imagine the kind of courage it must take to strap on a bomb and know you are going into, maybe nothingness. That kind of courage and committment should be put to better use.

Explain to me how killing someone gets people in jail, and it's called homicide or murder, but killing someone during a war it's called a casualty of war and doesn't oblige you to do time or face a sentence...
PLEASE, this is not an ethics forum (though feel free to leave an opinion), i just want to know what legal grounds or moral arguments make a civilian killable during a war. Or make a soldier something that is not a person, so you can kill him without beeing punished.
Keep in mind: Some warfare kill civilians taht were not supposed to be harmed BUT when someone kills another person on a car crash he has to do time even when he didn't "mean to" kill.
How many million person does law stipulate have to be killed during a war to allow a trial for crimes against humanity, like nuremberg or saddams? Are the dead people under this threshold not considered humanity by international laws?

Just read about a Army Basic Training Stress card. I've heard about them. But I've never seen one or met anyone who admitted ever having one in basic training.

Did anyone in here actually have a stress card when YOU were in basic training?? If so, what basic training post were you at?

Not heard of them, or knew a guy who knew a guy.

This is a serious questions because I don’t get it.
I look at it like this. Iraq has been told for years that America was a bad country and Saddam was the man, of course they will look at us as being bad and some will want to kill us, they have been brain washed. It takes time. Its only been three years, so I don’t see the time factor as being a reason
Yes we are losing troops, but isn’t that what happens in war, so I don’t see that being a reason.
Yes I am like anyone else and don’t want to see anyone getting killed, especially American or allied troops, but we lose only three troops a day in a war country. In the USA we lose 43 Americans a day from homicides, so again I am not seeing the connection how we are losing.
We are catching more top ten wanted people in Iraq with a smaller number of troops then we caught top ten wanted in the USA with over a million people looking for them. So I don’t see how we are doing a bad job catching people.

I guess I am at a lose and don’t see how we are losing troops.

Tell me where I am wrong

150 people( all men ) were kidnapped from the Ministry of Education in Bagdad. More bombings as well. If we can't protect the people of Iraq and we won't send the amount of troops necessary to do the job, why not pull out? This isn't working.

I actually find it quite interesting, some of the answers concerning Darfur from questions I read. One that really provoked thinking was this one by Leogirl: "Hey? People are whining about war? Let the liberals go and fight this one. Or France, or Russia, or someone else. "

Now, the reason I found it interesting is that a similar event happened in Rwanda; a genocide in which several innocent Tusis, over half a million in fact, were killed by Hutus. Now the president who was in command at the time was Bill Clinton. Oddly enough, he is continuously criticized for his inaction regarding Rwanda.

Now, in Sudan currently is a group called the Janjaweed, led by a man named Joseph Kony. In Sudan, Darfur to be exact, they are trafficking girls as young as 14 for sex to their soldiers, they are putting boys as young as 12 on the front line to kill and be killed. Yet the same people who criticized Clinton for his inaction state how it isn't our concern. Can someone explain to me this logic?

General of the Armies is the highest military rank in the U.S.A. But why "Armies" versus General of the "Army"? I don't understand the difference.

I side more liberal or Demo but I also believe we can`t leave Iraq after we have screwed it up for the people there. Would it cost anymore money and lives if we were to just go there FULL force with our military and take care of this situation . Look at it now, at this rate we have another Vietnam that will go on a long time. If you add up all those years and lives which way would be better. Now that Bush got it started we have to finish it. The way it looks now to other countries is that we are weak and our military leaders are stupid. We better do something drastic with Iraq soon and put some fear into Irans butt cuz we will end up having to deal with them soon

Whether it be on assignment or a small unit exchange. I had two myself. I was fortunate to go to Fort Benning to the US Ranger School and had a very good time with the 3rd Bn 7th Infantry just after the Vietnam War. The other time was on assignment with the 1st Bn British Para in Cyprus in 76. Both times were a real experience I won't forget. How about you?
