I have a girlfriend that has been in the united states for about 12 years. She says that she is a political excile and that she has a permit to work here, but is not a citizen. She said that since the war in her country (el salvador) is over, they want to make her go back. What are the first steps to take in order to get her green card?

There's plenty of negative information regarding illegal immigration.

Any positives other than the migrant farmworkers, who are occupying jobs that Americans are not willing to do ???

What you stole by force of arms can be taken away from you by force of arms.

Stealing from a thief is not a crime.

My gf got her citizenship and swears we are the only country that makes you do that, is that so? Are we even the only Western nation that requires that?

Please advise.

Here is a column I read from a pro illegal allien group:
"On the street, true immigration reform means: fixing the family reunification system so families won't be separated; legalization for the undocumented without incremental phases that stretch out for years; due process and equal rights for immigrants; immigrant worker freedom from exploitation and employer abuse, and an end to criminalization of immigrants on the border and in the interior."

Why should America open its borders for them?

I am a senior lecturer at a major US university, and I hold a European Union passport. I have a 3-year (renewable) contract and my department and the Dean's office are willing to sponsor me for permanent residence. However, the university OISS claims that only tenure-eligible faculty members can be sponsored for permanent residence, and that in the last couple of years applications for non tenure-eligible candidates have been consistently turned down. They are saying that this has to do with US immigration regulations, not with university policies. Is this true? If yes, are there any other viable options (apart from looking for a tenure-eligible position somewhere else?) Some universities seem to sponsor non tenure-track senior lecturers (e.g. Penn/Northwestern/Drexel), but my OISS keeps telling me that the information that I have found is outdated. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Even if such person also has English (or German or Norwegian) as their first language?

I notice it's the same in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Norway: if you're black or brown and you talk to whites, most pretend they don't understand what you're saying. Strange, no?

Question after question make no reference to any basic facts: take, for example, the inference that British-born British citizens will soon be a minority in Britain. A cursory glance at the 2001 Census results demonstrates that the British-born are still 93 per cent of the British population. How difficult is it to check up on simple facts, especially on the internet? Racist sloganeers have a wondrous speakers' corner in the web.
