Government - September 2007

if the federal government decided that rather than passing laws and making states carry them out it would simply give the states responsibility for a major social program like welfare?

Do you think that it would create a lot of new jobs for the state, but how would they afford to pay all these people? Caotic?!

and I have not heard a peep from any centrist candidate. It seems they are all to the left or to the right. They are too much for me. I don't like every candidate to preach all this radical change. Sure we need changes and we need some things to just stay as is but who is there to vote for next year?

As I remember it, General Westmorland, commanding our armed forces in Vietnam, went before congress in 1968 and gave his expert assessment of how we were making significant progress, the VC were starving, and it was only a matter of time until North Vietnam surrendered.

A few days later, the North Vietnamese/VC launched the Tet Offensive which nearly took Saigon.

It took six more years and 21,000+ additional American lives before we left.

How many American lives will it take this time before we leave?

Just about everyone knows that under a process called eminent domain, the government can (and does) seize private property for public use - to build a road, a school or a courthouse.

But did you know the government can also seize your land for private use if they can prove that doing it will serve what's called "the public good"?

Cities across the country have been using eminent domain to force people off their land, so private developers can build more expensive homes and offices that will pay more in property taxes than the buildings they're replacing.

Under eminent domain, the government buys your property, paying you what's determined to be fair market value.

Please respond with your opinion on this issue. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am 24. At the beginning of this year, I made a very valuable mistake by going into a grocery store and taking 25.00 worth of food. I bought some things, but took the things that I could not afford. I had no lawyer or defense, because I was scared and had never done anything like this, so I didn't know what to do. I've heard that based on the cost of the goods taken, the judge would be more lenient. Now I have a record for petty theft, I got 3 years of probation, and had to pay a fine of $310.00. I was cool with everything except the 3 years of probation. Now I can't get this sh!t expunged for another 2 years and 5 months. I'm 24 and can't stay at this sh!t job for $9.50 an hour and not afford college. I've had jobs my whole life and can't even apply at some temp agency due to having a misd. for petty theft. I don't want to sell myself short, but at this point, nobody will hire me and I can't afford school (financial aid turned me down). Should I strip for a minute? Need to eat.

I am 21 years old and I have absolutely no forms of identification. I was planning a trip to Canada in about 2 weeks, and I realize now that it will be impossible to do this without proper identification to cross the border.

Being that I have no Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, or Passport- how can I get an ID? All means of obtaining an ID requires some other form of ID in order to get one. How can I get one without any of the others?

It seems I am stuck in a paradox.

Hinduism because of its noble tolerance has become a victim of some mean politicians who day in and day out abuse it for personal gain. Something more to this question! Do not you feel from past bad experience with some seasoned oldies that are notorious for their tongue wagging against opposition and religions - an old age leachiest habit – that the age of retirement rules applicable to Government employees also should be made applicable to these run-out septuagenarians and octogenarians. It may perhaps serve India from its present rot.

Is it not a slap on the face when the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad request for an official tour of Ground Zero while he is at the United Nations next week? Don't forget this is a president who give speeches in Teheran while his citizens chant death to americans. I think we need to get him for his dirty games he is playing in Iraq and get his behind court marshalled.
