I am confused here. Republic means "government by elected representatives". Democracy means "government in which the power is vested in all the people". Don't we have both? We vote for people to have the power to rule over the people.

Call me stupid, that's fine. I am getting into politics more this year and I am getting confused with what my friends and parents are telling me. I understand our election process and such. But the words 'democracy' and 'republic' confuse me. Then reading the definitions of these 2 words and learning about the differences btn Democrats and Republicans and Liberals confuses me more. Can anyone suggest some reading material or websites (unbias) for me to look at to come to a full understanding on this all? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Right now the Republicans have control of the house & we are trying to set up a democracy for Iraq. How can Republicans have a democracy? and push a democracy onto a foreign country? Do we have the right to do that?

I hear so much talk about oil companies have such large profits and that they must be charging too much for gas. But if you look at the numbers they are one of the least profitable industries.
Why does the public buy into this garbage?

According to their financial report, Exxon has a profit a margin of 10.46% for the last quarter, and 9.5% for the last year.
McDonalds over the same time has a profit margin of 14% for the quarter, and 12% for the year.
Apple computers has 11% and 12% for the same time period.

Just because a company has large sales doesnt mean anything about their prices or their actual profit.

Americans must learn to love Bush. We must follow him like a father figure. We must teach our young children to be just like him.

Respecting the President and never question his action are the first two great step to being a "TRUE" American Patriot.

Never question his advisors even if they are Canadains.

I hope this will not make me lose 10 points today.

"The 60-million-dollar funding shortfall comes just as the annual "lean season" approaches, when people have to wait until next March or April for the next harvest," a statement by the World Food Program (WFP).

We send millions every Year for decades on end and it's the same story. Isn't it time those people just move? Read the above article. If I had to wait until next March/April for food. "I would move"
What should we do with these people. Keep the same path etc..??
