Democracy only works for those willing to make it happen. It is probably the hardest form of government to institute because it requires the most inout from a broad range of people. If the people of the country do not want to participate and compromise, then it will fail. This is why for some regions of the world, the idea of a democracy will not work. The Middle East, Africa, South America, and most of Asia are prime examples of this. These areas are filled with warlords, drug cartels, and uneducated people that do not want to do what is necessary to sustain a democracy. Instead of the U.S. trying to force a democracy on these people, we should allow the people of that country to change it for themselves. As for areas that might turn democratic in the near future, I believe that China may be ready for this revolution, but the Chinese people have to change it.

I would go straight for examples - today India is the largest democracy in the world and one can see how the country has developed and is self-sufficient in most areas. Take its neighbour, Pakistan, which has hardly seen any democracy since independence (both countries got independence at the same time) and how far have they progressed?
In India, many years back Indira Gandhi introduced emergency and the world saw how the Indian voters threw her out of power in the next election. That's democracy!

North Korea and South Korea are perfect examples of democracy working.
During the Korean war, S. Korea's best technology was a wooden plow pulled by oxen. Now they are one of the world leaders in import and export products.
They use to live in mud shacks with rice straw roofs.
Now they live in modern dwellings, just as we do.
North Korea still has a poor population with starving people there.
Most of them still wash their clothes in streams and ponds and live in substandard housing.
Is there any better example that Communism doesn't work?

Democracy is a fad that's been around since the Greeks. It's really quite a Platonic notion. There are no true democracies. The US is a republic--don't kid yourself. It's all rhetoric. The corporations are running things.
