The Ayatollah Khomeini – the religious/ideological inspiration for both Iranian president Ahmadinejad and Hizballah leader Nassrallah — had this to say on the subject:

"Those who study jihad will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world. … Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to paradise, which can be opened only for holy warriors! If there any ambiguity, any wiggle room in this remark I’m not perceiving it."

Of course I strongly feel that our government is to protect us, keep us safe, and help our independence in general. Now I know this argument is probably never ending, because people still argue this today, but I just wonder what our some people's thought on this subject?

Pope Benedict (Joseph Ratzinger) is a highly educated man. He has studied science, history, political science, and all major religions. Scholarship has been his life.

Muslim leaders only learn to memorize the Koran at the madrassah schools.

no pope in history has made a deeper study of Islam. Having explored every verse of the Koran, and engaged in long debates he rejects the simplistic notion — held by fundamentalist Christians, and by the Roman Catholic Church until the middle of the 20th century — that Islam is evil. Yet he is convinced that some of its doctrines are morally indefensible. In Benedict's view, a profound ambiguity about violence lies at the heart of Islam, arising from the Prophet's belief that faith can be spread by the sword. Mohammed, after all, was a general whose troops beheaded hundreds of enemy captives. Benedict would emphasise that the Islamic understanding of God is radically different from that of Christians.

Violence begets violence.

If anyone kills the pope, Muslims will most likely face retaliation and a physical object (not a person who is the nominal leader of a church) will surely get destroyed in the ensuing disaster.

We are a violent and dangerous people. We declare war on everything - Iraq, drug, crime - war is our favorite thing, aside from making up new crimes so we can keep putting more and more people in prison. Our Big Brother, GW Bush and his henchman, Lord Cheney, have killed tens of thousands more people than the terrorists we're "at war" with. . .since nobody knows who our next victim might be, why wouldn't they hate us?

Do you think if everyone refused and stopped paying income tax until our government brought home our troops would work? The government can't put everyone in jail. It would send a message to our government that WE THE PEOPLE!!!!! are still in charge of this country

Once again, schoolwork. I'm studying the accusations against the British king in The Declaration of Independence. Can someone help me understand what he's being accused of here:
"He has excited domestic insurrections among us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions."
Any help is appreciated-thanx!

This is about a ballot initiative in a state that sets up a "super grand jury of citizens." They would be randomly selected from voter registrations to oversee judge's rulings and decide if they should be fired.

Can someone help me with what exactly is meant by the quote in The Federalist Papers No. 51 by James Madison that says: "If men we angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary." I'm studying it in school and I'm trying to get a better idea of what that means, mostly just the second sentence. Explanations? Thnx!
