Do you think if everyone refused and stopped paying income tax until our government brought home our troops would work? The government can't put everyone in jail. It would send a message to our government that WE THE PEOPLE!!!!! are still in charge of this country

Great idea!! Petions and marches don't work, and your right. They can't put the whole country in jail. Watch it Frank, your country might make you dissapear with an idea like that!!!

Would not do a thing.
First a lot people would go to jail (small business owners and the self employed)
second the government would force businesses to pay all the income taxes for all their employees out of their pockets then your company would take that money from your pay.
Third eventually everyone would have to pay their taxes with penalties and interest.

If people did that enmass, the laws would be changed to prevent it in the future (mandatory withholding levels, or something). I have zero withheld all year - then owe a big tax bill in April (about $1,500.00), but I prepare for that and have the money to pay it. The 5% penalty for underpayment is small. For some people, this would cause problems. And the IRS penalty and interest can quickly eat up any benefit you got from having that money all year if you are not prepared to pay your tax debt.

LOL!!! The question is of course ridiculous. The IRS would not necessarily put every one in jail: There is also property seizure, funds seizure, garnisheeing of wages. There's no end to what the IRS could do. You would rather stiff the Mafia for $50,000,000 than to screw the IRS for $5! All the Mafia can do is kill ya. The IRS can make your continuing life a living hell.
Personally I wouldn't want to "bring the troops home" in any sudden manner. If we did, when our troops leave, those that we are fighting would surely follow.
Other than that, I'm sitting here with a picture in my mind of top Democrats having cataleptic fits and foaming at the mouth. "NO TAXES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

For the most part, that is what they do anyway, then you can file for a refund of what they haven't spent. Insidious system. In addition to the war, there are plenty of other reasons to cut off the government, and yeah, I wish enough people were informed and infuriated enough for such a scheme to happen. If even 1 in 10 refused to pay it would be a giant scandal.

It a nice idea, but the government has the ability to garnish checks. It would suck to open your check on payday to see the government has taken it all. Also think of the social programs that essentially be shutdown such as medicare. I really wouldn't like to know that I helped killed some older person because they couldn't get their meds. A basic law of physics is "For ever actions there is an equal and opposite reaction." If you want to take any steps I would suggest that you contact a congress rep. and let them know, with a signed petition, they will not get your vote without removing our country's soldiers from harms way.

Ironically the 16th Amendment was never "officially ratified" by the the states to be part of the Constitution.
How are you going to refuse to pay taxes...? They withhold it out of your check prior to you getting it. Yes, there are some of us who get refunds every year... but if you pay in and you don't... best of luck ! You'll love the Federal Pen.

You would quit working and stop buying things in order to stop paying taxes. If everyone stopped paying income taxes, they would just garnish your wages.
What we need to do, is stop electing and reelecting people like Bush.

I doubt it - you'd have a hard enough time getting half the people to go along, much less all of them, and the first thing the administration would do is start cutting "unnecessary and wasteful" programs like Head Start.
