I'm sick of hearing the Federal Government blamed for State issues. All the GST raised goes to the State Governments and all of the State Governments are better off now, due to the GST than under the previous fund allocation scheme. Recently, several of the State Governments highlighted budget surpluses. Did anyone else notice that these surpluses were very close to the GST amounts that these States received. Qld's definately was! The GST was meant to be used on Hospitals, Schools and Roads, with extra funding available on application to the Federal Government. Instead, we find that Schools and Hospitals, in particular, have received less State funding and, in the case of Qld, sporting arenas have been built instead. Suncorp Stadium is one that comes to mind. Qld also put the Ambulance Service into financial stress, removing Ambulance Subscriptions and attaching a "Levy" to power bills, after which they reduced the amount allocated to the Ambulance Service. That's Labor at work!
