They do not represent the interests of the people of the USA. They seem oblivious to the problems their actions/inactions create in our lives. They seem to truly believe it is okay to not enforce our laws. Why aren't both the Democrats and Republicans stamping their feet and demanding that our ports and borders are secured? Why aren't they at least investigating price fixing with prescription drugs, oil, etc ? Why are they okay with a few media conglomerates taking over all media outlets in America? Why do they believe the middle class should pay with their tax dollars for costs they don't want, such as billions to Pakistan, rebuilding of Iraq after the Iraqis blow up their country, Schips for adults with children making middle class wages and making select groups of people pay for it, perks and social services for illegal immigrants, outrageous salaries to mercenaries in Iraq subsequent to unmonitored no bid contracts, thievery of billions of tax dollars, etc. ?

I been saying it for years, CLEAN OUT CONGRESS!
Term limits, twice in any office and gone.

Any member of CONGRESS running for president should give up their seat in CONGRESS.
If they are running, they are only representing themselves.

Some areas vote on a straight party basis considerably.
Consider Cook county, Illinois.
Most people didn't think Todd Stroger would do a good job. but he won anyway. why? because he was running on the Democratic ticket. the Unions in Cook always vote Democratic. Cook county tends to sweep statewide elections, as it contains a LARGE portion of the IL population.
which is how we ended up with Obama and Durbin as senators.

Durbin and Obama have consistently ignored their constituents. Durbin will likely get re-elected next fall despite that.

My Senators are an embarassment to this State and Country.

My Congressman is still in his first term, but his voting record shows he pays attention to his constituents. Probably because he grew up in this district. Peter Roskam is awesome!

That may be why governors have had more success in presidential elections. Senators have never had to run a business or government entity on their own. The legislative mentality doesn't always translate well in the executive branch. Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush (W) were all elected since any Senator or Representative has been elected. Nixon was the last former Senator elected president and Ford was the last former Representative who was president, but he was never elected by the people.

By your reasoning, it wouldn't matter if we re-elect the person we've already got or put another schmuck in there. Basically, they're all out for themselves. If, once in a while, what's in their best interests happens to match the best interests of their constituents, then they do something for us.
I also believe the two-party system is killing us. Our representatives at every level are so polarized that they would not agree with a great idea if it were proposed by someone of the opposing party. How can any progress be made this way?
I think it was Winston Churchill who said somethiing like, "Democracy is the worst form of government in the world, except for all the others."
HB: I agree, as long as you understand that it's not the teachers who choose to teach the "civic religion" that has replaced honest history in our classrooms.

While some of what you say is accurate, making a generalization that NONE of the Senators or Representatives are doing their jobs is going to far.

There are some legitimately good representatives who work hard for their constituents and are blocked from true progress either by the bureaucracy or by others elected officials.

But I do agree that if a particular representative is not serving his or her constituents, it's time to elect someone who will.

I couldn't agree more! We have a year and we should ALL be making it our business to let candidates for all political office, from both parties, that we are not going to elect anyone who is in any way in favor of amnesty or ducks the question. America wants illegals out and we are going to have to demand it or those making fortunes by using slave labor will give our country away. We are sick of fighting in the middle of somebody else's civil war and those who do not actively favor bringing our boys home TODAY aren't going to get jobs. It is easy to say but if we want it we are going to have to go out and DO IT. Take America back!

Collectively the congress gets low marks from almost everyone. However, most people say that "their" congressman is doing a good job. I guess it's due to all the pork barrel projects they get for their districts. But if everyone votes to re-elect their congrssman, then we're all stuck with the same shmucks.

because we are a glutton for punishment. We no longer teach true history in our schools so we don't learn from our past mistakes
