I'm sick of hearing the Federal Government blamed for State issues. All the GST raised goes to the State Governments and all of the State Governments are better off now, due to the GST than under the previous fund allocation scheme. Recently, several of the State Governments highlighted budget surpluses. Did anyone else notice that these surpluses were very close to the GST amounts that these States received. Qld's definately was! The GST was meant to be used on Hospitals, Schools and Roads, with extra funding available on application to the Federal Government. Instead, we find that Schools and Hospitals, in particular, have received less State funding and, in the case of Qld, sporting arenas have been built instead. Suncorp Stadium is one that comes to mind. Qld also put the Ambulance Service into financial stress, removing Ambulance Subscriptions and attaching a "Levy" to power bills, after which they reduced the amount allocated to the Ambulance Service. That's Labor at work!

Finally, yes it is a state govt responsibility, so all of you die hard Labour supporters need to take your blinkers off and smell the roses, if you like how Labour is running the state go ahead and vote for them to run the country, but it is my guess that when they start ruining the country and your interest rates are well up in the double figure due to Labour sending us into another recession you will all be the first ones to complain. Whilst ever we have a Labour state govt NSW will continue to be broke due to their mishandling of our funds and wasteful ways. Obviously a lot of Labour supporters who don't like hearing the truth about how it really was under a Labour govt .

In 2007-2008 the Qld government's GST revenue will decrease by $166 million while it will be meeting its obligations to reduce its state taxes and are facing a $1.2 billion loss in revenue by 2010. So in the face of that, it's just as well they have a surplus at this time to work with, fund their plans and boost their economic growth. Good on them. That's responsible fiscal policy at work. The States do not get anywhere near enough funding from GST distribution alone to pay for everything - they are not better off at all under this new system and have less control, having to cow tow to Federal government demands to get just a fraction of OUR money back.

In 1997 the taxpayer provided 29% of total funding to private schools. In 2004 that rose to 40% and there is no evidence that schools fees have dropped. Ten years ago the Federal Government allocated around 62% of its school budget to non-government schools. Now it is 71%. The Federal government has a school budget out of our income taxes, so why are they not putting more towards public education? Because they want to be able to blame the Labor states for political reasons, while we can just go to h**l.

It's the Federal government which has blindsided and stolen from us all.

so with that you think the Liberal party are a better model of running public office? Never mind the 17 billion sitting around in surplus, never mind the billions in the "future fund" to pay the super and retirement benefits of the liberal pollies. I wonder what sort of help the ALP could offer the states and actually engage in constructive arangements to repair the neglect that Howard and Co have left this country in.

Why would we work and pay tax for the federal because when we are sick we must ask the help from the state government. I think both federal and state has the responsibilities for it.

Public schools and hospitals are government services that are allowed to be performed by private individuals or corporations. If there is inadequacies on education and healthcare, it is still the government that must be blamed.
