Yes, to protect the sanctity of the American voting system, so ONLY an American can vote, so an American is NOT forced into competition with a foreign body, or bodies to decide who the American leadership should be. I mean I don't want these folks who don't belong here telling me who my President should be!!!! I DON"T want them to be able to MAKE my president BE who THEY (illegal aliens) want. THAT'S MY RIGHT!

Voting poll volunteers also need to be trained in how to detect fake ID cards.

Yes, it would be a good idea (though photo ID's can be faked); there should be a series of checks and balances. I do know that you cannot vote without being registered and having a voter registration number assigned and appearing in the voter books at the polls. These are in the book before the election. When a voter arrives at the polls, he goes to his particular district to vote, his name is looked up and his signature should be checked (and, if more information is required, he must present it to the poll worker: driver's license, proof of address (by a bill or document with his name and address on it); birth certificate) etc. He may not vote if his name is not in the books (unless it is left out in error); this is checked by calling the Board of Elections who can look up the person's voting history and date of registration. If they have no name on record, the person cannot vote. If they have the information, the party will then vote by Provisional Ballot.

I work at the polls and do not see how someone can get away with voting illegally though I know it has been done in districts where some people are not checking the information which is required (and this must be set up by more than one individual); when a voter votes, the poll worker must initial the transaction in the voter book and if the information is wrong, he can be called in front of a judge to explain why things were not done properly. I still think it would be a good idea to have a photo ID for all voters and I think everyone should be required to show it.

Yes. First of all, to stave off voter fraud. Secondly, to keep someone from using your name when voting and then you find out and can't vote. Some say a drivers license hurts those who do not drive and do not have a photo card. But you can get an ID card at the DMV that looks just like a driver's license.

On the other hand, in some cases a birth certificate should be fine if it is the original.

I live in the state of VA and I have to show a photo ID in order to vote. I think it is a good idea. But, VA was one of the easiest states to get a Driver's License in, some time back. I think it has tightened up a bit now.

BTW, back in the early 80s, I traveled to Nigeria. There I hired a car and driver to take me into Cameroon. When we returned to the Nigerian border, it just happened to coincide with Nigeria's expulsion of illegal aliens. Thousands of people were being forcibly removed from the country. If they could prove they had been in the country for a certain number of years, they could stay. But, they had to PROVE it. A bill or receipt going back 25 years is NOT the kind of thing most people keep!

Absolutely.

Why is this not done anyway. Could be because some individuals may not have a license or ID. Why is that? Its not hard. A general state ID is free, if one cannot obtain a drivers license.

What could the reason be? Why would someone disagree with an ID requirement?

The only possibility to me, would be so they could vote in multiple voting districts.

the recent regulations selection with the aid of state. some states now require image identity, whilst others do no longer, and assorted those that do have a provision for permitting people to vote in the event that they have not got a image identity (e.g., signing a sworn fact swearing that they are who they are asserting they're, and that they are eligible to vote.) If their declare is got here across to be fraudulent, they may well be charged with against the regulation. As for the reason at the back of the recent regulations, that's meant to ward off people from "stealing" different individuals's votes with the aid of claiming to be somebody else with the aid of in simple terms giving yet another individual's call and address while they walk in. without the identity requirement, no you possibly can ever understand that the incorrect guy or woman forged the vote except the genuine proprietor of that call and address got here in to vote and their call replaced into already checked off the record has having voted. and because votes are inner maximum, regardless of if that got here approximately, it may be too previous by using invalidate the imposter's vote by using fact there could be no thank you to tell who that they had voted for. regardless of if people are not allowed to vote till they're 18, the image identity regulation would desire to have little result on minors attempting to vote decrease than their own names, by using fact their names should not be on the eligible voter record besides and that they'd desire to be grew to become away with or without identity.

I've been voting in the same area of my city since 1985 and have ALWAYS had to show a photo ID, or no ballot. I don't know where these places are that just let you walk in and vote without even proving who you are. I'll go vote there too!!

Absolutely. Loathe as I am to add to government beaurocracy, I think when you register, you should get a photo ID card to present at elections. They can charge a fee for the original and for copies if the original is lost. No test to take, renewals needed only if the appearance has changed so much it is required. I want no illegals or dead people voting for my Federal officials.

We are supposed to but I have never been asked to show mine. If the people running the polls aren't doing their job, all the laws in the world won't change things. If they are supposed to see ID and never ask for it, why say you have to have it? (They should be fired, or not allowed to volunteer anymore!) Yes, photo ID's should be shown, a State Issue photo ID.

Yes.
You need ID to cash a check, get a library card ect.
It's a simple thing ,you have your voters registration card and your ID when you go to vote.
If your not trying to vote in place of a name on a tombstone, what's the big deal.
