The proposed changes would change the meaning of "violent felon" to include all robberies, among other things. I don't want my VCR stolen, but if it was, I wouldn't automatically call the person violent. Also, it would say "habitual sex offenders" will be people with ONE offense. Since when is once a habit? At first I thought this proposition sounded good, but when I got to the nitty gritty, it really seems like overkill. It looks like all the offenders would have to move to rural areas where it would be harder to monitor them, even with GPS! Has anyone read this in full?

Your country needs you. If the thought of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House doesn't scare you, it should!

While there was some media coverage of Rangel's initiative prior to the formal introduction of the bill, there has been a deafening silence: since February 2006, not a single article or editorial has appeared in print on the Universal National Service Act of 2006.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.4752.IH:

HR 4752 or The Draft will apply to all persons in the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a [two year] period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."

The bill applies to both US citizens and non-citizens, to men and women. There does not appear to be a provision which would exempt women who are pregnant and/or caring for infants/children in a young age.

IMHO, it takes away from "One person - one vote." For example, if I'm the only Repubican in a state full of Democrats, all of my state's electoral college votes go to the Democrat candidate - my vote doesn't count. If I want my vote to count, I would have to move to a majority Republican state.

And "why" do we use this system to only elect the prez and v-prez? Is it because they're the only two nationally-elected offices?

It's such an archaic system and, again IMHO, should be disgarded and replaced by election through popular vote. Should it be replaced or retained?
