India is a developing country and is moving ahead fast. But the truth is that a large portion of its population lives in poverty. That is why it is considered underdeveloped.

I am not sure how the "foreign invaders" relate to the basic question.

I dont think of it as a underdeveloped country. Hell every time I call Sears or my Visa Card I get some heavily accented Hindu women from Calcutta or somewhere in India answering my 800 number trying to give me customer service with her broken English. Must not be all that bad, look at all the telemarketing appeal over there. Plus I pretty sure theres a McDonalds around somewhere. If ya got the arches, cant be that impovished. Maybe look into your own government for corruption or order a Big Mac and watch the world fly by. (Question for thought-----If the cow is sacred over there, do they even have Big Macs???, maybe all chicken menu.)

Most people have had invasions in the past 2000 years, that's a lot of time to talk about. The level of poverty and overpopulation in India makes it difficult to live in the usual way of people in the USA and Britain. That is one family, to an apartment or house, bathrooms, heat, more than one TV, some land, sufficient supplies year round of vast assortments of foodstuffs, and the refrigeration to keep it fresh at home. Free schools for all who attend through 12th grade. A car or even two is usual. Air conditioning is used extensively. I know many people in India have these things too, but the amount of people who live that way in Britain and USA is much more. Underdeveloped means that you have room for more, we, on the other hand have just about reached our limit.

U don't need to compare India to US or UK to realize how underdeveloped India is. Compare it to Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand Brunei and Malaysia and every smart fellow will understand how backward India is. The only area where India has an advantage is in its neclear ambition. Well, too bad because while hundreds of millions die due to poverty, violence and starvation, the corrupt gov't can still afford to pursue its selfish and meaningless nuclear program. To say that it is too tragic is an understatement.

What "Damdawg" said. It has been said that it will someday be a real "force" to be reckoned with economically. Like China. Have you ever noticed that if you have a computer related issue and you call a tech support number the people are from India? Not only are they from India, they are actually IN India. They always give names like "John" or "Joe" but they aren't their real names.
