Do we do it because some of us are just bleeding heart socialist liberals?

No. It is not that simple.

I would argue that there are two very good practical reason that we hand out welfare and health care that even the hardest of hardcore cons would agree with if they just stopped and thought about it.

1) We give people just enough money in welfare and health care to keep them from rioting in the streets and overturning society. Remember the mobs of the French and Russian revolutions? The Romans called it "bread and circuses." The knew what they were doing. They kept the mob in check that way, too.

2) It is the moral and right thing to do. It has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with Christianity. The Bible tells us we are our brother's keeper, whether we like it our not.

Agree or disagree?

The best example was when hundreds of thousands marched through London to protest the war in the Middle East and the Government did absolutely nothing regardless of all the protesters? I'm fairly sure there are countless other examples in other countries as well.

Given the fact that as a people, us Brits are easily walked over, that so many stood up in protest and nothing was done, how can people say we live in a democratic society?

A fee could be paid maybe £1000 for every illegal immigarnt that is caught and deported. Sounds pricey but it would save millions in the long term in not having to deal with the crime, the housing, schools and everything else these people cost us.

Should Al Gore have not thrown in the towel so readily in that presidential votes fiasco? Just think, if he had stood his ground he would have been president and the world might not be in such a state of conflict as it is now. Don't you think things could have been so different?

"PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education."

Bush wore a freaking ear peice to every damn debate that he had, he rarely said anything that wasnt told to him and when he didnt he was a blubbering idiot. Did anyonec are to notice how Bush worked nicely with dem's in Austin but when he became president he stonewalled them? Hillary CLinton is intelligent and resourceful, confident and respectable. She would be a hundred times better then Bush.

I have to ask this question because it just happened at the job I work for. A lady that works there told me that her daughter was coming to work the following day. The next day, I was asking her about the daughter because I mistakenly thought this other girl was her, and she told me that they wouldn't hire her because she was in the Reserves, and it was likely she would be going to Iraq, and that someone else who really needed a job could get this job. I thought that was so funky. Look, I just want honest answers here. No opinions. If you got facts. let me hear it.

OK, so at this point we can surmise that the Democratic nominee for the President of the United States is going to either be Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton or Senator Barrack Obama.

However, who will be the Vice President?

- If Hillary is nominated does Barrack become her VP, and Vice Versa?

or

-Do they each decide on someone else (And have they already? If so: Who?)

also

What are the chances that such a merger would take place (eg. Hillary and Obama on the same ballot as Pres/VP or VP/Pres)?

I teach a college writing class. My student just turned in his final essay, and of the ten pages he had copy and pasted about 3 from an Internet site, and he didn't reference the site or change any of the wording. So he plagarized. My department says its up to me to either fail the paper or fail him all together. He's a nice kid but always making excuses. What would you do? Which would teach him the better lesson? He's done 4 months of work, and now all of that might be wasted. Oh, and I think maybe he might have done it before too, now that I think about his wording in some parts of past papers, just the first time I actually caught him....I'm looking for thoughtful answers, I really do feel torn about this. Thank you.

The way Indians are treated in Malaysia, it is total let down, i think Indian army should be sent over there to restore balance. If India sent army against LTTE why not send army to protect Indians.
