Because in the midst of the patriotic Orgy that ensued after 9-11, it would have been perceived as "unamerican" to question our President, his policies or his intentions. 9-11 gave GW Bush the Power to do what ever he wanted.

Because prior to Iraq and 9/11, CNN did a piece on how Saddam has these huge warehouses full of Anthrax, biological and chemical weapons that had been recently uncovered by the CIA. This piece was aired over and over and captured America's attention that Iraq was stockpiling these weapons to use against the US. It was very disturbing to say the least but later proved to be inaccurate. The mass hysteria was already there though and made the attack on 9/11 look like it could very likely be connected with Iraq.

Cookie hit the nail on the head. One other thing we might want to consider is this: the people we are fighting don't see a war in Iraq or a war in Afganistan; they see a war against our beliefs and way of life. They see Iraq, Afganistan, London, Madrid, Beslan, Bali, etc. as fronts in their larger struggle against us. We prefer not to think about this because the implications are too chilling. I don't know how many more kicks in the teeth Western society needs before they start to realize exactly what we are up against.

They did, but it was buried in stories or the newspaper.

The press did a pizzz poor job acting as the last check in our check and balance system.

They are still doing a pizzzz poor job in that regard.
They still print word for word what the administration says without very much opposition regarding international affairs.

Because there was tremendous public support. We Americans seem to want instant gratification. Bush warned that it was going to be a long hard battle and that we need to stay strong. We are letting our country down now.
