Now THAT'S a novel idea. And think of the money it would save.

But, immigrants aren't flocking to the United States to mooch off the government. According to a study by the Urban Institute, the 1996 welfare reform effort dramatically reduced the use of welfare by undocumented immigrant households, exactly as intended. And another vital thing happened in 1996: the Internal Revenue Service began issuing identification numbers to enable illegal immigrants who don't have Social Security numbers to file taxes.
What's more, aliens who are not self-employed have Social Security and Medicare taxes automatically withheld from their paychecks. Since undocumented workers have only fake numbers ( given to them by the IRS), they'll never be able to collect the benefits these taxes are meant to pay for. Last year, the revenues from these fake numbers — that the Social Security administration stashes in the “earnings suspense file” — added up to 10 percent of the Social Security surplus. The file is growing, on average, by more than $50 billion a year.
The cost of undocumented aliens is an issue that immigrant bashers have created to whip up indignation against people they don't want here in the first place. With the Senate having just returned from yet another vacation and promising to revisit the stalled immigration bill, politicians ought to set the record straight: Illegals are not milking the government. If anything, it is the other way around.
White House Report Lauds Immigrants' Positive Effects
NY Times | June 20, 2007
ROBERT PEAR
Hoping to influence Congressional debate, the White House issued a report on Tuesday saying, “Immigration has a positive effect on the American economy as a whole and on the income of native-born American workers.”
But it acknowledged that some research had found “small negative effects” on the wages of the least-skilled American workers.
The report, prepared by the president's Council of Economic Advisers, says immigrants enhance the productivity of native-born workers and increase their earnings a significant amount, estimated at $37 billion a year.
Can't argue with the facts, sorry..

Futile. For every immigrant deported, 5 more would come back here. Maybe start slapping some really heavy fines with people who hire illegal immigrants? I know a lot of legal immigrants and they are more pissed than anyone about illegals, because it means they too get generalized with them even though they entered the US legally. As long as there's jobs to be had here, and none in Mexico, immigrants will come.
Or perhaps a good exploit of this idea would be for crime rings to send the same immigrants over here to be caught, then "catch" them to collect the bounty.

Maybe you have the correct solution to our immigration problem. There is some precedent for bounty hunting in our nation's history. A citizen's arrest is lawful---the only problem would be a follow-up by the Feds in deporting the illegal. Somehow I believe that the States have a constitutional right to escort this illegal to the border and say stay out of my state.

I would like to see such an idea used in the United States. We could announce that we are going to put a reward on illegal aliens in six months of such and such. Make it 50 pounds and then give folks a chance to leave without deportation. That way, they could sell their goods.. they could leave peacefully.
Keep that level in place for a while, and then move to the next level with a 75 pound reward. I think that would work for no other reason than that all the crowding in our societies is far less pleasent when we have minorities screaming racism at us at every turn. We need to stop it and have national votes on the issue and that is one thing the federal government in the U.S. is avoiding like the plague.

will not work
those catch will be ofered 2000 for every every catch left free +100 every month.
The economic advantage to illegal employers far outweighs the prize money. This money they save is recovered 15 days. after that bank balance improves.

Easier to put a bounty on people who hire illegals.
No jobs, illegals go home.
And every employee would enforce this law for the government, funded by fining the employers.
You can't fine illegals, they're broke. So your system costs the tax payer.

Pathetic! If you see a crime you should report it. You shouldn't only do so if you get a financial reward. People like you are what's wrong with this country!

Excellent. You are right, in the long run there would be a lot of savings to the government and the American people.
