a dozen or so oilwells, designed like water fountains - oil squirting out, recovered and delivered to a holding tank to gush out again... we could even put a retired fighter jet on a steel pole overlooking the oilfield. Bush could pretend to be leading the charge in his toy jet, overlooking the invasion of the oil field, while his neocon buddies scurry in play jeeps below pretending to be in battle? It sure would be cheaper than the mess he's got us in now.

As for me, I belong to the upper middle class, but my sister and her husband are different. They both work, but they aren't able to afford medication for their illnesses. I've been to their home, and they barely have any clothes and furniture. My daughter asked me if they were poor - especially because they live in the hood. I told my daughter that only the Africans are because they are starving and homeless.

My sister and brother in law don't even have a savings. They live paycheck to paycheck and can barely make ends meet. I'm so afraid for my sister because she has a brain tumor that needs to be removed and even with their insurance, they can't afford that or even any medication. I looked at this:

http://www.sociology.ohio-state.edu/classes/Soc463/matthews/Class%20System.pdf

It didn't help. I'd say they're "working class", but at the same time, they have no savings and can barely make ends meet. They were close to both becoming homeless before, so I really fear their future.

do you sometimes find it difficult to believe all the new reports of "Terror on the Rise again" that come out? There are times it is difficult for me to believe our govt has any credibility anymore.
Anyone ever feel this way?

>Jim Moore reporting for a Houston TV station:
>
>Jim: Juan, I see that you and thousands of other protesters are marching in >the streets to demonstrate for your cause. Exactly what is your cause and >what do you expect to accomplish by this protest?
>
>Juan: We want our rights. We will show you how powerful we are. We will >bring Houston to its knees!
>
>Jim: What rights?
>
>Juan: Our right to live here... legally. Our right to get all the benefits >you get.
>
>Jim: When did you come to the United States?
>
>Juan: Six years ago. I crossed over the border at night with seven other >friends.
>
>Jim: Why did you come?
>
>Juan: For work. I can earn as much in a month as I could in a year in >Mexico. Besides, I get free health care, our Mexican children can go to >school free, if I lose my job I will get Welfare, and someday I will have >the Social Security. Nothing like that in Mexico!
>
>Jim: Did you feel badly about breaking our immigration laws when you came?
>
>Juan: No! Why should I feel bad? I have a right to be here. I have a right >to amnesty. I paid lots of money for my Social Security and Green Cards.
>
>Jim: How did you acquire those documents?
>
>Juan: From a guy in Dallas. He charged me a lot of money too.
>
>Jim: Did you know that those documents were forged?
>
>Juan: It is of no matter. I have a right to be here and work.

>Jim: I have read it, but I do not remember it saying anything about rights >for Aliens.

>Juan: It is in that part where it says that all men have Alien rights, like >the right to pursue happiness. I wasn't happy in Mexico, so I came here.
>
>Jim: I think you are referring to the Declaration of Independence and that >document speaks to unalienable rights... Not Alien rights.
>
>Juan: Whatever.
>
>Jim: Since you are demanding to become an American citizen, why then are >you carrying a Mexican Flag?
>
>Juan: Because I am Mexican.
>
>Jim: But you said you want to be given amnesty... to become a US citizen.
>
>Juan: No. This is not what we want. This is our country, a part of Mexico >that you Gringos stole from us. We want it returned to its rightful owner.
>
>Jim: Juan, you are standing in Texas. After wining the war with Mexico, >Texas became a Republic, and later Texans voted to join the USA. It was not >stolen from Mexico.
>
>Juan: That is a Gringo lie. Texas was stolen. So was California, New Mexico >and Arizona. It is just like all the other stuff you Gringos steal, like >oil and babies. You are a country of thieves.
>
>Jim: Babies? You think we steal babies?
>
>Juan: Sure. Like from Korea and Vietnam and China. I see them all over the >place. You let all these foreigners in, but try to keep us Mexicans out. >How is this fair?
>
>Jim: So, you really don't want to become an American citizen then.
>
>Juan: I just want my rights! Everyone has a right to live, work, and speak >their native language wherever and whenever they please. That's another >thing we demand. All signs and official documents should be in Spanish. >Teachers must teach in Spanish. Soon, more people here in Houston will >speak Spanish than English. It is our right!
>
>Jim: If I were to cross over the border into Mexico without proper >documentation, what rights would I have there?
>
>Juan: None. You would probably go to jail, but that's different.
>
>Jim: How is it different? You said everyone has the right to live wherever >they please.
>
>Juan: You Gringos are a bunch of land grabbing thieves. Now you want Mexico >too? Mexico has its rights. You Gringos have no rights in Mexico. Why would >you want to go there anyway? There is no free medical service, schools, or >welfare there for foreigners such as you. You cannot even own land in my >country. Stay in the country of your birth.
>
>Jim: I can see that there is no way that we can agree on this issue. Thank >you for your comments.

I am enlisting into the US army active duty as an infantryman soldier. Do I have a say what division I will end up in? If I go airborne do I have a say if I be put in the 82nd or 101rst? If I stay strictly infantry do I have a say if i get put in the 10th Mountain... or the "Big Red One" 1rst infantry, or the 2nd, 3rd, etc?? What will happen to me after basic training and where will I go...?

My main goal is to become an airborne Ranger. I know I have to do airborne to even be able to go to Ranger school, but If I dont pass Ranger school am I then stuck in an airborne division? Or can I still be in a normal Infantry division and just have a nice airborne pin....

Do NOT give me bull **** about dieng, or being foolish or anything...

Recently my uncle has been to court for something he did a year ago. It was not horrible and did not threaten or hurt anybody. He was sentenced for three years in jail and everyone we have talked to says it seems too harsh for what he did. Even the judge said that he had never heard of a sentence this harsh for what he did. He is a big help to our family and I can't stand to see how this effects my grandmother and mom. The thing my uncle is worried about most is finding someone to take good care of his dog. Other people who have done similar things but much worse have a much shorter distance. This might be hard to explain without telling what he did. I just don't want to give away his privacy.
I'm not sure exactly what we can do to help shorten his sentence. I would just like to send a letter to anybody involved in the court decision and point this out.

Today, the republican leadership used a manuever to require a 60 vote majority to pass an amendment sponsored by Sens Jim Webb (D-VA and Chuck Hagel (R-NE). This amendment would have required that troops have at least as much time at home as they are deployed. The amendment failed to get 60, it got 56. A procedural victory for republicans.

As a member of the army national guard, I would appreciate such a measure. I did two deployments, one 18 months, and one 15 months, which includes training that took me away from my home. In between them, I had 11 and 1/2 months at home. I love my country, but this isn't worth it anymore.

I'm a highly qualified soldier, I have a top secret security clearance and a bachelor's degree. I'm getting out in 6 months. The army can get by with the felons it now recruits.

I find Bush's exhortations of "supporting" the troops ridiculous. He and his party support only the war.
