oh right, I forgot. It's now called climate change because nobody truly knows what is gonna happen. Way to hedge your bets, guys!

global warming is designed as a cause to fight for, a reason for someone to become fearful, motivated or even enraged. it's designed to create a following for those who wish to preach it. although I believe temps are going up, I don't believe it's man made nor is it controllable by man. it's fact that this would not be the first time in history that it has occurred.

This is why it's being called Climate Change, now. In the 70s, global temperatures were dropping just slighlty, and the environmentalists were making dire predictions that air polution was leading to a new ice age. Today, global temperatures have risen a bit, and Global Warming was the buzzword.

In actuallity, small changes in average global temperature can be accompanied by much more dramatic shifts in local weather patterns. Thus, even though global average temperatrues have risen slightly, one area can still have a record cold snap. The two can even be related.

For starters that's an example of unusual (extreme) weather which could be attributed to global warming. However, isolated weather events tell you nothing about global warming.

The conclusion that global warming deniers arrive at from this article is 'it's cold in Buenos Aires, therefore global warming isn't happening'. This is simply absurd, as we've directly measured global warming:

Then there's this. I'll see your Buenos Aires and raise you the entire planet:

"2007 is expected to be hottest year on record"

And finally, another link which specifically addresses this issue:

I am an outdoors technician with a degree in parks, recreation and wildlife. It gets colder due to when you have built up heat and it is all in the atmosphere then it blocks out the sun which causes temperatures to drop. The problem is there is more heat then cool so the earth will continue to get warmer. Even with this you have volcanos that erupt and the smoke and blast from them also blocks out the sun. Smog and smoke from our factories and vehicle pollution also go into the atmosphere and block out the sun light. So there are quite a few factors to the cooling temperatures but if thats during the winter it is also because the earth is turning away from the sun during this season.

*THERE IS NO "Gorebal WARMING"............For nostradamus 02012........ If you could get the millions of acres of wild fires put out that are burning the west to shreads , then the cloud cover of smoke covering the Pacific NW would disperse , thus allowing the heat ( 106 ) being held down under the cloud cover to escape to the "Gorebal Warming Abyss"............For crabby_blindguy ......115 degrees in Las Vegas`, you say , imagine the nerve of temperatures getting up to 115 degrees ? HELLO` Earth to crabby_blindguy, Earth to crabby_blindguy; Las Vegas " IT IS IN THE DESERT ", what would you expect , well on second thought don`t answer that ! If you were shocked at it being HOT in the DESERT, then we need not pursue this any further.

ANYTHING that happens is a result of global warming, even if the climate stays the same. So if nothing happens, that's even more reason to panic and buy carbon credits from Al Gore. I wonder how much money Al got from the live earth concert.

hmm... using one singular localized incident to tear down a global theory

LET'S use your ridiculously perverted logic in other areas... shall we?

... there hasn't been a terrorist that has struck my town... I guess terrorism isn't a real threat then?

... I have never personally witnessed a person dying... I think it's all a bunch of lies... nobody really dies...

... I look at the horizon... looks flat to me... earth isn't round...

... the sun is clearly moving in the sky, and I don't feel the earth moving... the sun revolves around us...

... I have plenty of food and water... I bet no one really needs either anywhere...

maybe I should stop before you start believing these things...

Look; the ice caps are melting, the glaciers are disappearing. We are one of the few animals that fouls its own nest with toxic wastes. At the very least let´s have a little respect for this planet instead of taking an isolated local phenomenon as scientific evidence.

Global warming predicts Ice cap melts, which will have adverse effects on oceanic currents.

These currents produce meteorological phenomena, as El Nino does when it is in full strength.

Current analysis predict anomalies in weather.

Snowfall in Buenos Aires is ominous.

How canglobal warming NOT be happening when its 120F in Las Vegas?

Short term variations have nothing to do with global warming one way or the other, Herb. I know you aren't that stupid.
