In the United State, citizens get more rights as they get older: When one turns 16, they can get a provisional drivers license. At 18, they become "legal adults" and they get the right to buy firearms (but not handguns), pornography, tobacco, spray paint, lottery tickets, and most importantly, the right to vote and the right to serve in the military.

Now why is it that an 18 year old can join the military, recieve Silver Stars and Purple Hearts for valor in combat, but cant come home and go to a bar in downtown Washington, DC? How come the US government can trust the 18-21 age group with owning firearms, bearing the burden on defending freedom, and choosing the nation's leaders but can't trust them with the responsibilty of drinking alcohol? What is the reasoning behing this logic and why did the US government change the law back in the 70's from 18 to 21? Why did the government feel they had to hold federal highway funds from states that didn't obey?

I don't know if you've been reading about the Iranian protests over rationed gasoline . . . but it gave me a thought. The Iranian's own one of the largest oil fields in the world. They do not have the refining technology to process the crude - which is why they claim to be developing nuclear energy. Could this entire problem go away if we helped them build a refinery instead of turning to nuclear power?

My father identified himself as a conservative Democrat, then as an Independent. He is a blue-collared worker since he runs the production line at his work who is part of the Teamster's Union, so he votes for the candidates that most support unions. He says he voted for Reagan when he ran for President because of how crappy of a President Jimmy Carter was, so Reagan was one of the only alternatives. He says that he thinks JFK, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton were good Presidents, even though they had different political stances.

a democratic President next election than any democrat could have ever hope to do. His fear campaign is basically over, it no longer works. So why do so many republicans still insist on such baseless, outrageous statements and still try using fear to garner votes? Tax and spend...well just who is going to pay for this Iraq fiasco? Cut and run, that was Reagan in Beirut not democrats. They're going to take our guns, it's never happened and never will and let's not forget gays and abortion destroying America. Has the hate and fear message finally gotten to the end of its road?

Complain about immigrants entering the US when they themselves illegally entered Iraq and destroyed everything in sight. They then massacred hundreds of thousand s of Iraqis and tortured prisoners at Abu Grahab and they have caused civil conflict between the Shia and Sunni communities. How can these people complain about immigrants entering the US when they are happy to enter other peoples countries themselves in order to steal natural resources like oil?

If a "renting" neighbor causes damage to your property, can the landlord be held responsible?

Please don't answer with "ask a lawyer" because, obviously, I'm trying to avoid that.

I know its a problem, but I have not met or even seen anybody who's been on meth, ice, crystal, speed, whatever you want to call it. What does it do to them? How do they act? Have you ever known anyone who has used it? Did it destroy their lives or were they able to quit using it?

My apt is horrible and has the following problems:
1. they try to "fix" the water at least once every week during which time they will shut off the water from 2 hours to all night and the next day.
2. they told me when i moved in that a security gate was being installed within the next month. I have lived there for 4 months now and the gate still isnt up and functional.
3. I am very clean, but I got a rat/mouse in my pantry somehow. i bought traps and asked the maintanence to fix it. Two weeks later and after bothering them several times did someone come out to "start the process."
4. It is summer in TX and the AC will stop working during the day. It will blow air but it is never cold. Sometimes, it will mysteriously turn on at about 11pm.

What can I do? I hate it here and I dont think it is too much to ask for to have water, AC in the summer, and no rodents in my house. I only have 2 months remaining on my lease, so is there a way i can break it w/o hurting my credit

Here's what the president of my college/employer just wrote:
" On Friday, June 15, Governor Rick Perry vetoed $154 million in funding allocated to community college group health insurance. The cut will take effect in the 2008-09 fiscal year and will result in a $3.8 million (approximately) reduction in state appropriations for Collin College. In his veto, Governor Perry stated that community colleges had falsified their appropriation requests submitted to the Legislative Budget Board. We absolutely take strong issue with this allegation. To date, no evidence supporting the Governor’s claim has been released. All 50 Texas community college presidents have united in making the Governor and the media aware that this action will be fiscally devastating to community college students and the economic future of Texas. "
Bottom line: this means that my paycheck which currently has over $600 in deductions for insurance will now make it over $900 per month taken out of my paycheck...
