Go directly to your local Social Security office tell them about it. They can change your # and make provisions to see that any money you have paid to SS is credited to your new number.

I had this problem back in college in the 80s. Have your local State Unemployment Office audit your number. Social Security does not have the time or will or patience to go after this person. I have not had a problem once I had the State Unemployment Office audit my number.

Your State Unemployment Office has more to lose under the fraudulent usage of SS#s, whereas Social Security Admin. really doesn't care. That is why the state will go after the fraudulent user.

The police should be reporting it to the secret service....they now handle identity theft. After that I would involve the SSA...social security admin. Ask for a new number....remember, if you do that it will create a lot of residual problems for you. Also, put a block on your credit with the 3 credit agencies. Transunion, Experien...cant remember the name of the 3rd. The block will cause you not to get same day credit and force a creditor to call a designated number to get approval to run credit.

Contact the social security admin, all 3 credit reporting agencies, ALL of your credit card issuers, your bank(s) and lenders, mortgage company...in short anyone who lends you money or extends credit to you, and your states stolen identity agency. If your state does not have such an office set up, contact the attorney general's office.
Your paperwork now will ease the pain somewhat later on.

How do you know this? It is FEDERAL problem and should be dealt with at your local social security office. They will track down the problem for you. If you are talking about someone else claiming you on their tax returns then that party is the one you need to contact. Parents can claim you until you are on your own and completely out of their home.
