For the past several years I have been working on a self-published comic book. The name of the comic is also the name of the character. The name is very simplistic, let's pretend the name is "Cat". My comic has recently been picked up by a major publisher and we are working out the final details of the contract

However...

There is a man who wrote two short stories several years ago, both published in a little known magazine or book, with the main character named "Cat" (I believe the name was also used in one of the titles). He is claiming that he has the trademark right to this name, because his work was published a few years before mine, and wants to turn the story into a comic. I filed online for a trademark of my comic, however, I learned he filed for a trademark as well, just two days before I did.

My question is, would his two stories and an intention, without any artwork or character concept, be protected by trademark?

Well, I'm 16 and of course teenagers tend to speed, and I fully admit I was exceeding the speedlimit but not as much as the cop stated he clocked me for. I am positive I was only going 40-45 (posted 25--not cool) but he said he clocked me at 62 I believe it was. Now, I have a court date and all, but could I substantially prove to the court that it was possible that he clocked the guy behind me who was speeding to go as fast as I was while tailgating me- my initial reason to exceed the speed limit. There isnt anyway I could have been going that fast as there was a big construstion truck with it's hazards on, no more than 150 yards infront of me. My ranger does not have that kind of power. I'm just really worried because it is my first offence and I heard there was possible Jail time. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should do?

Thank you very much all.

I don't. I think it's better to truly agree with something and then later admit you're wrong than to refuse to admit you're wrong.

Now, i understand that that was a bad election for the GOP and there was some serious advertising against him, but he lost like 57% to 44%, worst ever for an incumbant. Someone tell me what happened, in some detail.

There is a very disturbing trend I have seen lately on Y/A, where folks refer to America as a Democracy........
Do People know that America was Founded as a REPUBLIC and NOT a DEMOCRACY? I see this a lot when people support doing away with the Electoral Vote and favor a Popular vote because as a "True Democracy" it should be that way?
There is a HUGE diference!!! We are a Republic of States. Which means that the STATES you decide their own fates and have Freedom from the Federal Government NOT an Umbilical Cord plugged into it.
We blame or praise our Federally Elected Officials, and expect "Favors" and "Entitlements" from the Fed., which was not their job in the first place.
Do schools teach how our OWN Gov. works? Dod kids still say "I'll never need to use History and Gov. class, so why learn it"? It is scary since the 1930's how the Fed. Gov. has grown. Our Founding Fathers would roll over in their Graves!!!
Read the Preamble to the Constitution and Decide. Republic or Democrac

Increasing the number of troops in Iraq is leaving many more troops exposed to explosive devices and the possibility of being captured as with the three soldiers who have been taken by insurgents. Is it going to succeed in bringing security to Iraq or is it the last desperate roll of the dice by Bush?

If I decide to stay abroad after a trip to Europe this summer I would have to return 3 months before my passport expires. I will most likely return before Feb, but I would like the flexibility of having a passport that does not expire in April.

The other issue is that I leave in a month. Is there even enough time to renew it? Is there an express renew process?

He was a Korean War veteran and served in the Navy for about 20 years. I figured that the US Govt. would have payed it, but apparently not. My parents have the money, but spending $2000 on the spot is hard on them. Any help would be appreciated.

By the Way- there is no "National Funeral Home" in our area, i heard they provide free funerals for veterans. That is not an option.

A friend of mine was falsely accused of rape and has been under investigation for months now. What usually happens with these through them? We haven't heard anything and hope everything turns out ok. We know it was false because a couple of us were present at the house when they slept together and she was fine. She is just being vengeful because he broke things off for her being a ****** pyschopath.
