Tomorrow is the big day. Will you not buy gas tomorrow to send a message?

The gas boycott is complete and total bunk, rediculous eco-babble by people who think they are accomplishing something, but are actually accomplishing nothing.

The gas boycott is an Internet Urban Legend, started 7 years ago, and latched onto by enviro-geeks since.

No, because boycotting gas isn't going to change anything or send any kind of a message.

Do you really think that not buying gas for one day is going to put a dent in an industry that makes multi-billion dollar profits annually?

If you knew how much of a profit oil companies make in one day, you would see just how ridiculous your protest will be. On average they make about 2 million dollars in profit daily (British Petrlolium/3rd largest in US) Just imagine what the top 2 make.

The reason prices didn't budge is that people will still use the same amount of gasoline for the week or month.
The promise of depriving oil companies of $3 billion dollars a day assumes all the Internet users in the country would normally fill up their cars on the same day, which is of course absurd.
Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service said he looked into prices for all of April, 1997, and said for the entire month they didn't move by more than a penny.
It's just one of those weird things that originates on the Internet.

I'll buy it if I need it.

Read an economics book-this is a bad idea. Or just read one of the 10 million posts or websites that explains it.
Notice the only people supporting it cant give data to support it.

You have to cut demand for a prolonged time, not just bump it for a day-that only hurts the small independent companies who are already petitioning the larger suppliers for lower prices since theyre feeling the backlash from consumers already.

I bought gas today. If I need it I will buy it. This boycott is pointless. The gas prices are high due to global situations. I will not inconvenience myself in a battle that we have no control over.

I didn't buy any, and I didn't crank my car. But like #2 said. He filled up the day before. He created no hard ship on anyone. Unless people do not crank their automobiles for 2 or 3 days they cannot affect the pockets of the oil companies. There is no chance of that happening, Americans are too selfish.

The whole one-day boycott (a whole day - oh, those evil oil execs are shakin' in their billion-dollar boots) is a poorly thought-out attempt to make people feel like their accomplishing something without really having to make sacrifices. "Boycotting" one day is easy. Changing your habits - be it walking, biking, carpooling or taking mass transit instead of driving - is hard. People don't like to do hard things. They just like to feel good immediately. The one-day "boycott" is easy, instant gratification. A continuous boycott can be long, difficult and may or may not result in any gratification.

Boycotting for 1 day will have 0% impact.CHANGING your driving habits will have a modicum of an impact.Start slowly. The biggest drain on your mileage comes from changing the inertia of a ton of metal standing still,to a ton of metal going 30 MPH.Don't race to get to the next traffic light.Use your head more than your foot!
