Many activist groups in Taiwan are again pushing for entry into the United Nations in Sept. 2007 -- the 15th try.

Is it possible that Taiwan's failure to be admitted to the UN in the past is due to the fact that the Taiwanese government officials have failed to prepare the proper documentation to support their "application" ??

The Allies did not recognize any "transfer of sovereignty" of the areas of Formosa & the Pescadores (F&P) to the Republic of China on the date of surrender of Japanese troops, which was Oct. 25, 1945. Moreover, in the postwar treaties, there was no transfer of sovereignty of these areas to the ROC either.

But does the ROC on Taiwan need to prove ownership of "territorial title" to F&P in order to enter the UN? Or can that requirement be waived? Can the Taiwanese just say "We don't agree with the specifications of the post-war treaties," and "Taiwan belongs to us because we say so," and let it go at that?

What criteria are truly relevant?

Hillary Clinton gets elected President and is spending her first night in the White House.

The ghost of George Washington appears, and Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"

Washington says, "Never tell a lie,"

Ouch! Says Hillary, I don't know about that.

The next night, the ghost of Thomas Jefferson appears...Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"

Jefferson says, "Listen to the people,"

Ho! I really don't want to do that.

On the third night, the ghost of Abe Lincoln appears...Hillary says, "How can I best serve my country?"

Lincoln says, "Go to the theater."

I am an anti-war democrat in the US, but I have always been for protecting your countrymen against aggression. I think that Britain needs to toughen it's stance against Iran to get the soldiers freed. What do you think?

Is it because they want to declare war on France and redeploy our troops there? France does have better targets and certainly better wine, but shouldn't we stay with the war we have and not be fickle? In the words of coaching legend Darrell Royal: " Shouldn't you dance with the one that brung ya?"

Why should I buy carbon credits when I can plant trees in my community to offset the CO2 in the area.

Planting trees remains one of the cheapest, most effective means of drawing excess CO2 from the atmosphere. (15)

A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 lbs./year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings. (10)

Each person in the U.S. generates approximately 2.3 tons of CO2 each year. A healthy tree stores about 13 pounds of carbon annually -- or 2.6 tons per acre each year. An acre of trees absorbs enough CO2 over one year to equal the amount produced by driving a car 26,000 miles.

If every American family planted just one tree, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere would be reduced by one billion lbs annually. This is almost 5% of the amount that human activity pumps into the atmosphere each year. (17)

Will you plant at least one tree this year?
