the city i live in has debated installing security cameras in public areas in high-crime parts of town. sounds good on the surface: more eyes equals less crime, right?

but look deeper: would you want a camera on your street corner? would you feel your privacy was invaded? how about the stigma of being told your part of town needs some extra surveillance? would you trust those viewing the images to have the best of intentions? should the public be informed where the cameras would be placed, or would that decrease their effectiveness?

what are your thoughts on this strategy? would cameras promote public safety or invade personal privacy?

my daughter has told us that her father has molested her, during his overnight visits. when she told this to us, we called the police right away. the sheriff actually came and questioned my daughter. next, she went to question him. he would not speak. due to his violent behaviors, we were issued a restraining order. anyway, we had court today. it was to be our first court hearing concerning my daughter's molestation. his lawyer showed up, but he didn't. what are some reasons he may not have come? could he have gotten arrested if he came?
also, i have applied for another restraining order. mine was only temporary and ended today at 5pm. i am very afraid of what he will do to my daughter, who is 3, now that she has told on him. how hard is it to get a restraining order against a person who has two felonies, has threatened to beat me, and who has a daughter who says he has been doing disgusting things to her? thank you all for your time.

... in the sand.

Do you think Hilary would be diligent in her views of NKorea and China? Or do you think she would play the Bill Clinton game of "being all happy go lucky" while living in Fantasyland.

(No, this isn't a question about Bush. I'm trying to have us think about what we want in our next president.)

C'mon people, do you still think there is anything to win in Iraq. Do you think Bush is going to wave his magic arms and everyone in Iraq is going to forget why they hate each other. It is a Civil War and they hate each other as much as they hate Americans. What is there to win and are you willing to ruin America to get it?

I'm 16 years old and i want to enlist with the Marine Corps when i turn 17. The problem is, I know I NEED to be physically fit. Also mentally, and everything else, but right now im conserned on how i should prepare myself physically. I talk to a recruiter at my school and he said i should be physically prepared BEFORE i go through recruit training. So any suggestions on what i should be able to do would be helpful.

Just how do the "terrorists" plan to take over the U.S. government and implement their own? I highly doubt that with all the power our army and military have, the odds of this happening are extremely low. Do the terrorists honestly believe they even have a chance? Can anyone explain this for the rest of us.....Im still confused about how they plan to do what they say they will!!!

All I hear about is these stupid U.S troops who no one asked to defend them, raping little 14 year old girls in Iraq and killing there families. It seems as though every wek some "soldier" is charged with raping and killing innocent people. If they can't handle war then they shouldn't have fought for a country that doesn't need protection, and is stealing oil and land, and making it look like theres a civil war going on. And dont tell me "oh what about 9/11". 9/11 wouldn't have happened if the U.S would let countries run there own governments which the people eloected, but are looked at as terrorist organizations.

BEST BUYS check your bags..did you know this yes or no?
I want to see how many people are unaware of the fact that Best buy cant legally force you to open your bags and allow you to check your prurchased products. Once you pay for them, they are your personal property.
Best buy knows this, yet they try to do it in an almost intimidating factor.

They've been know to follow people to their cars, box them in with other cars and threaten to call the police.
Thats illegal detainment---and they know it.
They cant do that, as they are liable against a lawsuit.

They can threaten to call the police and take your license plate -- which is against their SOP, but they do it anyways.
If they think you are shoplifting, AND THEY SEE YOU HIDE MERCHANDISE AND TRY LEAVE THE STORE, they can try to stop you.
But once you pay for youre items, they belong to you, and are your personal property. They have no right to do it, but get away with it, because it looks kinda legitimate.

but did you know that they cant do that?

If I get a ticket and plead guilty and pay the fine and I never get my car inspected doesn't double jeapardy apply because I have already been tried for the crime so even if I am stopped again I won't have to pay a fine because it would be the same offense.

How hard is it to transfer from the reserves as an officer to active duty as an officer?

Also a colonel told me that you can pretty much pick your job as an officer in the reserve but that in the Army it's much more competative?

I'm starting my junior year in college and was thinking about joining both the Army Reserves and ROTC at the same time through the Simultaneous Membership Program and graduating in two years as an officer in the Army Reserve (and getting to pick what branch I want to be in), I woud then switch over to active Army so that I could get the branch I wanted easier.

The colonel said that while I was in S.M.P. the Reserves were investing in me as an officer and that it would be hard to transfer to active duty once I graduated and became an officer in the Reserves.

Anyone who was in reserves as an officer and then transfered to Active, or anyone who would know anything about this, answer please.

Here are the details:

My husbands kids agreed that they would do a summer job they had done two years ago if they couldn't find another one before summer. I filled out the applications online for the kids. There were no signature spaces on the form, no social security numbers on the form. Their mother called tonight and said she had filed 6 counts of felony fraud and identity theft against me because I put her name on the job application and filled them out for the kids. The only line with her name on it was the one asking the name of legal guardian and I put my husband's name and her name in the same space - it was not a signature space.

Can she really have these charges filed or is she just being malacious? Don't fraud charges need to be brought against me through the Prosecutor's office?

I am calling an attorney tomorrow but I thought I would see if I could get some feedback tonight - maybe direction to legal code that I could read up on this.

Thank you!

I don't know where it came from or who started it, but for some reason people have been lying about our country calling it a Democracy. It is clear from the writings of James Madison, that our country was designed as a republic based on the concepts of liberty:

Here are two good explanations of why liberty and democracy are quite different concepts and why the misconception about our government has lead to poor policy in the middle east:
