This had been happening in Iraq since the U.S. invasion started. Now, it had become more alarming. More than two million Iraqis had fled the country, and more Iraqi citizens are fleeing at the rate of more than a hundred-thousand every day. The Iraqi refugee problem is now an enormous humanitarian catastrophe. Both Syria and Jordan had already sealed their borders with Iraq to prevent further flow of refugees (each had already nearly a million refugees apiece in their soil, accomodated on tents built in temporary settlements along the border). The U.S. only accepted entry of 466 Iraqi refugees into the U.S. since the war started in 2003.
