C'mon people, do you still think there is anything to win in Iraq. Do you think Bush is going to wave his magic arms and everyone in Iraq is going to forget why they hate each other. It is a Civil War and they hate each other as much as they hate Americans. What is there to win and are you willing to ruin America to get it?

yupchagee...are we reading the same history books?

You're reading too far back, read about the Korean and Vietnam wars, US involvement in the Iran-Iraq and Russian-Afghan wars.

Clearly, wars are won by the will of the people fighting them. Iraqi are fighting for their freedom and their homeland. American troops are not. Who do you think has more to lose and more willing to fight to death? The troops have become the police force in Iraq. In any society living in turmoil, the police force is the target of choice. They protect and defend, do not fight civil wars.

Support the troops. Withdraw and learn to negotiate.

Exactly what the military was saying as long ago as 2004 - but, then, you weren't listening, were you?!?

The story has essentially been the same all this time: train a new Iraqi military and a new police force, rebuild what we can while we're there (funny how the bad guys have made it a tad difficult to get very far with this one, isn't it?), and then slowly withdraw.

THAT is still the hope but you wouldn't know it listening to ANY of the ordinary media outlets, would you?

Americans want everything to be like a TV movie; you know, you can figure out the plot in the first 15 minutes, you can practically recite the "actors" lines for them before they utter the words, and the ending is known with about an hour to go. If it's not as simple as that then they start to get anxious and begin to cry and whine like little children. And that, with the mainstream media acting like conductors of the chorus, is what we've been listening to for the last three years.

there is nothing to win you are right. and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Retreat isn't an option because Iran would just take over Iraq after we left. Basically its a no win situation and we are stuck with it for however long the world as we know it continues to survive. I do envision a change in the world in the next 5-10 yrs because by then war world 3 will have started and we won't be talking because most of us won't be around to talk on these boards.

It's no different than Puerto Rico The Spanish American war ended a 100 years ago. Is there anything to win there? Should the Army and Navy abandon Puerto Rico?

In 95 years we can ask if there is anything to win after a 100 years in Iraq.

Go big Red Go

Winning is not out of the question. Democracy in this region would be a huge victory for the entire world.

The question is will the neo-cons allow victory. There's so much money to be made in War.

Winning is NOT out of the question. If you studied history, you would know that warsa rarely go smoothly. The US Civil War & WW II are 2 examples of wars that went very badly for several years.

My suggestion: get the military out and send in MASSIVE humanitarian aid. Simple? No. But it is the only right thing to do after the mess we have made.

waste the time, money, and lives of the American people; didn't you know that? o yea, and help the big oil companies because the administration is having an affair with them. perhaps one worse than with Clinton. i believe there is more intercourse involved in the current. and finally, create an illusion that we're "SAFER."
o, EXCUSE ME, we've ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED THE MISSION ACCORDING TO MR. PRESIDENT.
