India needs to become partners with Pakistan. Both nations put too much resources into its military, and not its people.

They've fought several wars already.....and now they both have nukes! Time for peace!!

Absolutely, you are correct. Good neighbourliness is indeed a must for peaceful living and property of the people of all the countries. The problem with the relation with Pakistan is the past history and the legacy handed down to us. Pakistan would like to allow the things to take their course of action. After all, time is the great leveller. Kashmir problem and other problems will always be stoked by them and the passion are always kept high at the hysterical level. Tit for tat has become their permanent policy. Their foreign policy is India-centric and decidedly conditioned by India-phobia. They must learn the lesson from the history of Europe, where the nations which were bitter enemies for centuries together had joined to form a European Community, a kind of loose Confederate structure, with a common Euro currency etc.

The good relations between neighbouring nations are always better for both. It will prevent future wars and resources will be spent on the development of the countries.

India is about 5 times bigger in population than Pakistan and economy is about 8 times bigger. It depends a lot on India to improve the relations. Why not solve democratically the Kashmir problem by asking the Kashmirs people in referendum.

First of all, it is an outrageously wrong perception that Pakistan and India have same cultures. Islam and Hinduism are two entirely different religions which shape the cultures of Pakistan and India respectively. India never accepted the existence of Pakistan. India needs better relations because India needs better cultural access to Pakistan. India being a lot bigger country superimposes its culture over Pakistan's by overexposing Pakistani artists in Indian media and calls them Bollywood artists. It is a part of India's effort to diminish Pakistan's cultural identity for its "Akhand Bharat" mission.

The reason why India needs better relations with Pakistan is to attract foreign direct investment and to reduce (eventually eliminate) defense spending so that the government can be more socialist and spend money instead for the upliftment of the masses of Indian people who have not benifited from the private education systems in India.
Also, by having amicable relations with Pakistan, India could possibly convince the Pakistani government to lift the legislative ban on Indian media & film in Pakistan (sure Pakistanis can see Indian media via smuggling and illegal satelites) so that Indian entertainment industry can obtain revenues from the screenings of Indian movies in Pakistan.
India needs better relations with Pakistan to be able to convince the United States that India is not a threat to world peace and to the US's miltiary hegemony.
Finally, India needs better relations with Pakistan to meet the Kyoto Accord by converting gasoline-fueled vehicles to CNG relying on Iranian natural gas through the proposed Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline.

Yes we can have good relations. Its all in the attitude of both the governments. It is not about 1 person in particular. Why play a blame game. I would say, both the countries are equally responsible in today's date. Why blame only Pakistan. The people in both the countries, majorly want to have pleasant relations, what is the government doing for its people. Though it seems a difficult currently, there is a possibility of improving the relations between both the countries. The attitude change will play a significant role.

I completely agree with ulagam. Pakistan has to take care of it's own problems and should learn how to keep a friendly relationship with India. Families which are divided across the border and the trade between the 2 countries should not suffer because of terrorirsm.

Having said that, Pakistan should take the international help to wipe off terrorism.

There is lots of hatred showing in the answers of people. Its very clear that interdependance of countries have risen alot. These both countries are important countries, they both will benefit from friendship, its not that India is showing a friendly gesture just for nothing, i also agree that Pakistans name in terrorism sometimes such a pivotal role to play in peoples mind, it is not yet clearly prooved that pakistan has done such deeds in India, it is what the media may tell us, but if something of this sort had been promoted by Pakistan which is also a nuclear state, do you think that Western powers would let them hold this power?

India also has many nationalist movement within its state, they may also be involved in such acts. Pakistans previous governement might not have been flexible enough to settle disputes, but this present governement is showing signs of cooperation and same with India.

Indulged in arms race is really affecting both the countries , excessive resources are being spent on it. If they both end their disputes, indulge in bilateral trade relationship then they both will gain, jobs will be created, the resources spent on arms may be spent on education, cuz we both have illetracy in our country.

Guys, we can be a good neighbour because of our history and culture there is no point we cant be friends with each other.

Guys when u r answering questions please have open mind, dont just write what has been dug down your throat through media, please have your facts straighten up. I am from Pakistan, but I have lots of respect for India, i like good things about that country such as their democracy, media, talented entrepreuners, but there are also some bad points which i dont like. And by the same token there are many things i like about my country but many I dont like.

What do u think having good relationship good for us or bad? Thinks hard, no country just gets into trade until or unless both are mutually benefitted from it.

Better relation with Pakistan will also not improve Terrorism sponsored by themselves.
When Pakistan is keeping his stand towards Kashmir unchanged then there is no reason why we claim improvement in relationship.
Infect Pakistan is blackmailing India if Indian side don't favour them in trade and strengthen security to bock antisocial activity they will help terrorist group out of the way.
One side Pakistan want to improve their economy with the help of India and other side if Indian side want to block terrorism by strengthening security measures they create a problem in that too.
Some of Muslim in India like Yaseen Malik are also helping Pakistan and taking it for granted all the liberties given by Indian Constitution to them.

we are so close to each othe rthat in one country would be affected by any thing nieghbor will feel the effect too take the example of that earthquake which not only inflicted pakistan but india too had to suffer . we got seperated out of the fear of our unity that could have made us the strongest people . even after our seperation we keep on tangelling with each other and that is not because we two want to fight it is because some one other wants us to keep fighting so that our united force could never be produced lest we won the world.our progress is inretrdependent
we must teach the invaders that they have ruled enough by dividing us yes we are seperate countries now but we are still together dont try ti mess with us or our unity will teach you an unforgetable lesson
